I used to feel the same way about Stephen’s designs in general - ie, they suit him perfectly but are unlikely to be something that an “average” person wears. Then I knitted a couple of his designs and my mind has been completely changed! I have come to the following conclusions: 1. the overall look/feel/mood/wearability of the designs actually seems to me to be mostly related to the choices that the individual knitter makes (especially in regards to colours and textures and other qualities of the yarn used), not the design itself. If the colour palette etc chosen by the knitter is something that they love, odds are that they will absolutely love the finished item and it will be worn. Knitters could always choose to knit the designs completely in one basic beige, very basic yarn, for example. 2. There are always plenty of learning points in the patterns - this all by itself makes them a worthwhile knit for me. 3. There is always room for the expression of your own creativity in the patterns. 4. Often the construction is really interesting. 5. It is good to be pushed out of your comfort zone sometimes both in what you create but also in what you wear. 6. I actually find the creativity that he blatantly and joyfully displays really inspiring (and oddly comforting, somehow). So, I suppose what I am saying is that his designs are far more wearable than they might at first seem … in fact, it is possible that the wonderful, bright, over the top, spectacular way that his designs are presented might be turning away quite a few customers who would be more inclined to give his designs a go if they were showcased in a more conventional style and palette …🤔🤔🤔 maybe he could consider showing casing the designs by having one example in his signature style and another example of the same design but done more conventionally for those of us who are not quite as adventurous … not sure … In any case, I agree that this shawl is stunning! It would fit in with my Stephen West couture knitting design wardrobe very nicely indeed!😊😊😊
