Hi y'all! So the week of February 15, Texas had one of the worst winter storms in recent memory. It caused widespread blackouts, pipes freezing / bursting and tons of accidents. Texas is not equipped for this type of weather and for this duration of freezing weather. This was our experience, we were probably on the medium/low end of the affects of the winter storm. It has given me a glimpse of life without the luxuries I often take for granted like electricity and running water. Grateful for the lessons learned and for helping me gain empathy for those who deal with this on a consistent basis. Praying for my fellow Texans and for those who lost loved ones due to losing power.
▶︎ 00:10 Intro to the vlog
▶︎ 02:16 Valentine's Day, before things got cray
▶︎ 03:24 #Dallaska Day 1: No power in below freezing, single digit weather, trying to work with bad mobile hotspot connection because Auditors Gotta Audit
▶︎ 08:25 Dallaska Day 2: Still no power. My corporate office on wheels tour (aka Dodge Ram).
▶︎ 15:27 Dallaska Day 3: Power came back but then our water went out and we were put under a boil water notice, melting snow to flush toilets....
▶︎ 17:14 Reflecting on our experience, what we did to prevent our tankless water heater from bursting (which happened to almost all our neighbors and many other Texans who are now scrambling to find these parts!), how we stayed warm-ish in freezing weather, making candles from wax melts and tampons and more.
A few ways you can help fellow Texans who were affected by the winter storms:
Our Friends Place: Their pipes burst, causing disruption to their transitional living spaces. You can donate to help here: ourfriendsplace.org/donatenow...
✴︎ Our Friends Place is a 501c3 nonprofit in North Texas, helping young women break generational cycles of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness through our Transitional Living Center (TLC) program and SOAR to Success prevention program.
Feed The People Dallas Mutual Aid: They are helping to provide families with food and basic necessities www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s...
✴︎ We are a mutual Aid organization that strives to educate, lift up, and provide the families in our local Black & POC community with the resources and essentials to survive. Through the use of Mutual Aid efforts like our Free Grocery Program and Community Care Programs, we are working to reverse the harsh circumstances that have been forced upon our neighbors by an under-serving system that has notoriously deprived our Black communities of the most basic human needs and living conditions.
Operation Kindness: The leading no-kill animal shelter in North Texas and where we adopted Juicy 12 years ago! www.operationkindness.org

I started following you after this event. Let me say wow, we were not prepared for this just moving here from Pennsylvania. This amount of snow and cold would have been nothing back home. We had no power for 18 hours but I know so many had it worse. We are just North of Dallas. 🥶

Its really cool to see someone elses perspective of this historic event. I vlogged the entire thing as well. It was def hands down the worst winter storm ive ever experienced in 33 years of living in Dallas as well.

Houstonian here! Glad you guys are okay! Dripping the hot water lines for sure helped but those tankless parts can be tricky. My parent's tankless system also froze but they were able to thaw the line out before it burst...even with copper piping! As someone who has traveled around I don't think copper vs other materials make the biggest difference when it comes to bursting in a freeze, it's more what is properly insulated or not. What little building regulations we have here are rarely enforced and it showed big time. I hope we have an honest evaluation about the power situation now though. Twice in 10 years now we have had rolling blackouts from a winter storm. We also get too close to hitting our maximum generation capacity most summers these days. Something has to be done.

I hope Texans prepare for this coming winter just in case it’s to ever happen again. I could not imagine going through this it would be so scary. I live in MO thankfully we have a gas fireplace in case of outages it will still heat my home

I felt this on a spiritual level. I also live in the Dallas area and was fortunate to have power but lost water for a week. I have always taken clean running water for granted and that’s something I’ll never do again. My heart goes out to everyone who had it worse and to those still without clean running water. During the snowpocalypse I found myself binge watching KZbin vloggers. So thanks for the content haha. I’ve been a longtime subscriber and noticed some of your older vlogs are on private. Do you ever think you’ll make them viewable again? Totally understand if not! Keep up the great content!

Glad to see that you guys were able to manage this snowmaggedon in Dallas and are out of it already. Thank you for sharing your experience in this vlog. I was thinking of you guys when I saw news clips and was thinking how crazy it looked. You handled the whole thing really well. I also can’t believe you were still working through this whole thing lol! But Mike came through with the lanterns for the ambient lighting and warmth.

I saw the title and I was like “I CAN RELATE” I live in Dallas as well but closer to UNT and girl I didn’t have power for 2 days and our pipes froze so we didn’t have water until Wednesday. It was hard. Glad it’s over. Love your videos so much. I’m also an accounting major 🤗

Wow. Looking back. I didn't know why I filmed my video the way I did but definitely felt the part where you said it's like a personal diary. Hopefully we don't have these issues in Texas moving forward but my confidence is low in that aspect.

Wow! You have no idea how lucky you aren’t dead from those candles catching on fire! If you are ever in the situation again, close your doors and put a curtain on that opening at the top to keep the warmth in the area in which you are staying

The people in Texas that wasn't affected by the snow storm that didn't lose power or electricity their light bills went up enormously so high and I think it was a disgrace for the light company to charge them that much money I read one family had to pay $10,000

I 1000% agree! Survival and mental health first. Also, when you work under insane conditions it becomes the expectation for everyone. *not saying this is the case for you Stephie

I understand y'alls perspective. To each their own. I definitely didn't work full days, just took a few calls and answered emails here and there. Like I mentioned, I was already going to be in the truck for a short time to warm up and charge electronics so for me, it was a good use of my time. However, that approach isn't for everyone. I felt in a safe enough situation to keep things rolling at work, Mike and I took turns taking care of Juicy / the house. Had it been someone else I worked with in my situation, I'd never expect them to work nor wouldn't have held it against them if they didn't.

That makes sense. What matters the most is that you and your loved ones are ok and as long as you’re fine with it who’s to say anything 🤷🏽‍♀️ I was thinking more of a general sense about toxic work cultures and personal experiences 😩. Love the vlogs keep them coming ❤️

I appreciate you! And I've definitely been in toxic environments like that in the past. I'm grateful my current job isn't like that at all, it's all my own volition vs someone pressuring me. Except I think because of my work background, I'm kind of desensitized to an extent about working through tough times or setting boundaries.... a constant work in progress for me now! Still trying to find the right balance between my drive to get things done and self-care 🤦‍♀️
