Original lawyer fucked up bad by not involving op in the first place
@gerble367 ай бұрын
Original lawyer was probably paid off. That's probably how she got ahold of the inheritance in the first place and why she was so convinced the lawyer would back her up.
@Animeaddiction7 ай бұрын
@@gerble36 Still would have left a paper trail. If the lawyer did get paid off, he's risking losing his license. Check with the banks that paid Stepmother's son's tuition. They had to have receipts on the transaction, thereby proving that stepmother's family didn't have the money to pay for it.

The attorney that handled this inheritance fu*ked up real bad. Op's money should have been put in a Trust until she was 18. SM should never have had access to that money. Everybody faintly involved such be arrested for theft and fraud. OP's Dad is just like all the other Dads in these stories who remarry and zone out when it comes to their bio kid(s) and let the SM pretty much do whatever they want with their stepkid.

If I were OP, I would've sued for the inheritance and moved out. It's clear her dad doesn't care about her either. If OP's dad believes her stepmom over her every single time, WITHOUT EVIDENCE, I might add, then he doesn't deserve to be called a father. It doesn't matter that OP isn't an adult. What she claimed was worth looking into, the fact that he didn't, and that he was ready to KICK OUT HIS OWN DAUGHTER, shows he doesn't care about OP. The aunt was a heroine here, and seems to be the only one who cares about OP.

@meanmsval7 ай бұрын
Sorry about that. My talk and text messed up and I was at work. What I meant to say, the lawyer and the aunt are irresponsible and liable for negligence. What kept this aunt from telling her brother that his daughter had an inheritance from her grandfather? And the lawyer should be disbarred for not using due diligence to talk to. After all, the aunt did say that she and the stepmother were both in the lawyers office during the reading of the will. The daughter said she was 18 years of age. This is negligence she should have sued their behinds off!
@linnlindner76287 ай бұрын
I think when her aunt talked to her about it and she didn't know anything about it, she should have gotten the brother and lawyer involved. I mean, in reality, it is within the father's right to send a proxy. However, that being said, there should have been documents... and yes; if the lawyer didn't have the documents, it looks super sketchy. Most lawyers know they could be disbarred by actively participating in such a scheme.

Most likely they're in the process of doing so, along with the divorce proceedings. Since she's guilty of inheritance theft, it's very likely she won't be getting any of her husband's assets or alimony. She will be spending some time in jail, her son will be expelled from college since the money to pay for his tuition is stolen and they'll both have to pay it all back.
@Ahalaia7 ай бұрын
OP should contact the lawyer (if she can) who handled the inheritance. Not sure how stepmom got a hold of it (different country different laws maybe) but OP would of had to sign paperwork and if the signature was forged then dear ole stepmom would end up in jail.

OP, you need a backbone. The first thing you should have done was take your Aunt up on her offer to help. Together you could have gone to the lawyer and gotten a copy of the will. You could have gone to the courthouse and gotten a copy. Why take everything the long way around. Now what you do is sue the pants off that crook for the inheritance plus pain and suffering. Filling fraud/embezzlement charges, do something.

Very likely. Taking someone's inheritance and ignoring the terms of the will is a lawsuit. It's basically theft and if the amount is substantial, (such as in OP's case), then it could be seen as a felony. OP should have consulted her grandfather's lawyer and that Stepmother was too stupid to realize that her taking the inheritance would have left an obvious paper trail. 1-How would Stepmom explain her son's college tuition? They would have receipts and where the money came from. 2-Lying that it came from her family wouldn't work since the bank would tell the court where the money came from, ie: from the inheritance lawyer giving her custody of money. 3-The court would question stepmom's family and they would have said they didn't have the money. 4-If you think Stepmom is going to get anything out of the divorce, think again. Theft of his daughter's inheritance is more than enough to convince the divorce court to leave her with nothing.

Already based on the title, no way this is true. A person inheriting money or property has to be informed of the will reading. There’s no way only the stepmother would know about the inheritance. Moreover, it’s highly unlikely that the stepmother would be the trustee or executor of the estate.

My mom was taken in by her mother's brother and wife after her mother died when she was 4 months old. Her parents separated when mom was about 15. Her mother had her own child and sent mom away to work in the war plants. When my grandfather passed he had his will signed but mother witnessed,leaving everything to mom and her s-sister. My grandmother stepped in because they were only separated and not divorced she took most of his wealth for herself and my aunt leaving my mom with nothing. She never fought for her share because she valued her relationship with her sister more than the money. She should have received about $30K. Remember this was in the 1960s and a big house was only about $20k.
