In the summer of 1969 this song was released. At that time I was in a US Army helicopter unit, stationed at the Nha Trang Airbase. Whenever our Hueys were up in the air, if a good song came on our AFVN (Armed Forces Viet Nam) radio, the pilot would "plug" us into the sound and we'd all sing to the song, especially this one. It was the wildest time of my life, flying at tree top level so that the bad guys couldn't shoot us (we'd fly past them so fast they could not aim and shoot). We flew in the Central Highlands region from the coastal regions by the South China Sea, all the way up to the border of Cambodia and Laos. We partied hard and sang loud with all that our hearts could bare. We never knew if we had another day of life, so we celebrated the one day we were living. Now I'm 73, and I'm looking back and wondering how I survived that war. Thanks to musical groups like Steppenwolf for entertaining us back then and giving us hope for the chance to see another day...!!

I haven't been on the back of a bike for a long time, but I sure remember the feeling. My brother actually gave me my last ride. I hope that your friend doesn't linger... just too hard on everyone. I lost my 15 year old nephew in June and he was in a coma for a couple of weeks before being declared brain dead. It was hard to see, still hard to see his parents trying to regain a new way of life without him. With that said, we sure have to enjoy the good stuff in this life.

Peter Fonda noted it was Dennis Hopper who selected the Easy Rider Soundtrack. And Dennis modeled his Billy characterization after The Byrds David Crosby who was the epitome of Hippydom of the time, I shared that with David when he was on Facebook from time to time before he sadly recently passed on, I read his books as well when he was still with us.

Born To Be Wild Steppenwolf lyrics Get your motor runnin' Head out on the highway Lookin' for adventure And whatever comes our way Yeah Darlin' go make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of your guns at once And explode into space I like smoke and lightning Heavy metal thunder Racin' with the wind And the feelin' that I'm under Yeah Darlin' go make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of your guns at once And explode into space Like a true nature's child We were born, born to be wild We can climb so high I never wanna die Born to be wild Born to be wild Get your motor runnin' Head out on the highway Lookin' for adventure And whatever comes our way Yeah Darlin' go make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of your guns at once And explode into space Like a true nature's child We were born, born to be wild We can climb so high I never wanna die Born to be wild Born to be wild

One thing that is on my to do-list before I'll leave this planet is to go on an Epic roadtrip across the United States. When I'll do it, I'll do it an old genuine American car, like an ol' 64' Impala cabriolet. And when I've just begun my journey, and turn on to the state highway for the very first time, one thing is for sure.... Born To Be Wild will be played on max volume! To America, the arguably most awesome country in the world! /Sweden

This song kinda helped me and my uncle get along. I used to kinda dislike the fact that he was so rough on me and my family in the past. But one day I helped him fix his Harley, while fixing it, this song was playing in the background and we started jamming out to it. It was a good time.

The quintessential counterculture biker anthem immortalized in Easy Rider. I’ll always imagine Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) riding their choppers into eternity after meeting a tragic end in the classic film -finally free from the intolerance and violence they encountered as depicted in the movie. RIP to both free spirits.

I loved Blue Oyster Cult's live covers of this song with Eric Bloom riding onstage on a Harley and towards the end he and Buck Dharma rubbed guitar necks during the distortion jam. Just glorious stuff. I wouldn't say it's better than Steppenwolf's original; they caught the magic Steppenwolf birthed. They were also a big time biker band.

This was a sign of the times movie in '69. And yes, the song made us all want to jump on our bikes and take off across country-a travel dream that so many boomers have been realizing...altho in RVs or car camping, not on bikes (sleeping under the stars on rocks and hard dirt is somewhat overrated when you're 60-70 something.)The subtitles couldnt make heads or tales of Steppenwolf...made me laugh out loud... And whats with the downvotes? That's just gotta be someone who wasn't there.
