Excellent !

Nice intro, I wonder whether it was planned as a contribution to the dead GOD project Too bad it didn't make it

Hi there, I'm Djaybee, I wrote the code for this intro. The short answer is no, that intro wasn't planned for G.O.D. The long answer is that, about 30 years ago, I worked on the CSF Dentro kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4iuqZupf6x6bJo but never completed it, it was a bit too ambitious and I ran out of time because of university commitments. That had graphics from Pandafox (known as Imperator at the time). During COVID lockdowns, I did pick up some ST coding again, under emulation, and Pandafox and I started to work on a demo for G.O.D, which had some similarities with some aspects of the CSF Dentro (specifically, the plays on lines), but I was too ambitious again, I underestimated how rusty I was with 68k code, and that ended up going nowhere, which has been a major theme for G.O.D. Fast-forward a bit, I wanted to celebrate my 40th programming anniversary in 2024. I experimented with some other platforms (Atari 2600, NES, Amstrad CPC) but got frustrated with those, and I came back to the ST, with a desire to build something very simple. I wrote the initial code for Stepping Back, and suggested to Pandafox that he could do graphics for it. The project quickly took shape, AD adapted a music for us, and, without any desire to actually compete, we figured that showing it at SV WE 24 would bring us some exposure. That's how we ended up with a 32kB intro in a 96kB category: we hadn't even aimed for a specific size.
