Thanks for your explanation. In case of a technical problem and you have to reset your NAS, how can you set back your data from your USB-drive to the NAS?

Exactly what I needed to know, thank you!...can I use 1 of my 5 NAS disks as a backup (incremental) for parts of the other 4? I use 3x 4TB Passport WD External drives that I keep offsight in my safety deposit box. I do a complete back up with the Externals every quarter, but I'd like a copy on sight that I can restore a file I might have corrupted while using. Possible? Thanks....

Awesome. Thank you for the video. I just upgraded my 218+ to the 1520+ running 5 Ironwolf 6tb drives in SHR 1. Also have 2 512gb NVMe drives for cache - which probably isnt doing me much benefit but those 2 NVMe slots were just begging to be filled ;). Anyway, thanks again! Subscribed.

If you have a 12TB nas (ds920), but the raid configuration is such that it only uses 8TB, will you need a usb drive(s) of 8 or 12TB?

Thanks for the video. I currently use an older WD NAS and several safe points (updating to a Synology). Can I use a NTFS formatted drive for the backup (format it outside of DSM) to keep the format and folder/file structure readable of PC and Mac? I plan to do both EXT4 and NTFS. Thanks

Thanks for the video! Please help, I have a QNAP TR-004, 4 Bay USB Type-C Direct Attached Storage with Hardware RAID. My intention is to use this device in RAID 5 mode as the device has Hardware RAID as an external backup of my DS920+ device with the Synology HyperBackup application. I set up the QNAP device in RAID 5 and formatted it to NTFS in a Windows PC. I connected it to the USB port on the Synology DS920 +, Synology recognizes it as connected but in the Control Panel it shows shows up as File system type: . Can you please help me with this?

USB Copy is lame. I can only select a single folder to backup.

You should use hyper back instead. It’s a much better solution.
