8 or 4 o'clock, and wait a bit. Not the position shown in this video that actually keep the sealant inside the valve.

Great advice - Unfortunately too late for me as I did indeed get sealant into my pump - Joe Blow Booster (as used in this video) - Any ideas on what I can now do to clean out the pump?

Stick the base in water and pump water through it

I've tried it but it doesn't work. The air is escaping along the rim so the tyre doesn't inflate ... I guess I will need to buy a special pump or an air compressor to make it work.

do you need to use a special kind of pump? I know there are pumps and intended for tubeless inflation, but what isn't clear to me is whether a regular floor pump can be used instead.

I'm new to the sport so I'm not 100%, but I believe its the type of valve used on bike tires these days that doesn't allow for a regular floor pump to be used. To my knowledge, you need a pump that is compatible with the two main types of valves, Presa and/or Schrader. Most are compatible with both these days. Hope that helps!
