Thanks for this video. I was born and raised in Memphis and never got a chance to see what this building looked like on the inside. I hate that Memphis is not doing better when it comes to our historical landmarks. But this building’s ground was under a 100 yr contract which made it have to sit until contract was up. It ended this year 2022, so maybe they have plans to do something with it. Another cool fact about this massive gym is that it use to be white with green trimmings! I bet that was odd to look at back in the day! lol

I have this undying love for this building since staying in the hotel across from it in 2021 - The Napoleon which is the name of man who owned the house that sat on the plot of land before this beautiful building was built. I feel drawn to this building, like so much energy is in it. I plan on getting inside this building and exploring it

My husband and I stayed for our anniversary shortly after it was renovated. Cool retro look. Gives a good impression of stepping back in time with modern twist. Loved it!!

@@lhayes9953 when was that? Cause it hasn’t been used in years from my understanding, like since the 1980s

I think it is interesting that this nearly 20 year old video is sparking conversation. I haven’t been back to Memphis since this trip, plan on getting back someday though. Was a really cool trip to a pretty interesting building I knew little about. We bought a lock set and changed the locks to one of the offices and had a lockable room we camped in. It was an experience back before I had kids. Glad you folks are able to reminisce with my crummy photos.

Yeah I was referring to the Napoleon. Sorry for not giving better clarity. Lol

They should turn it into a tourist building where people can go to the top floor like empire state

They need to turn the Sterick Building and the old Union Planters Building into downtown Apartments.

Lol. But asbestos is only dangerous if disturbed. They renovated the HUGE Sears building in Memphis that has asbestos in it BUT not disturbed, no harm. Look up the Concourse Building in Memphis and see how nice it is. That building had been empty and unused for YEARS. I hadn’t stepped foot in that building since I was about 8. I’m 50 now. But it’s good to see Memphis take an initiative to try to bring our massive buildings back to life again

@@lhayes9953 Yes they did an amazing job on the Crosstown Concourse Building. I would really love to find photos and videos of what it looked like when it was a Sears though.

@@CLR2TKF - I remember my family shopping at the old Sears Crosstown back in the 70's. They used to keep that place sparkling clean and immaculate. Don't even get me started on how they gussied up the place during the Christmas shopping season. As a little boy I thought that Sears was the official store of Santa Claus. 😂
