I think stuff like this is more important than ever. Week in week out we get pundits who to and fro with their opinions when they haven’t spent time with these players, or seen them train, nor understand their personalities and coping mechanisms. Managers when asked also don’t like to single players out. When you are equal as a player and spend hundreds of hours a month on and off the pitch, this is where we need to get our deeper understanding on players.

@gladiatorscoops49072 жыл бұрын
Yeh it was a silly question, it should have been "who is the Greatest English Midfielder over the duration of your playing career". Because you cant really answer that question without having have watched players of previous generations. Charlton, Robson, Hoddle from my understanding of how good they were considered could be in for a shout. Being 40 I have vague memories of Robson, not enough to have a good opinion on him but can only go off what Ive seen. In the time ive been watching footy for me its Gerrard - there was nothing that Scholes could do that Gerrard couldn't do to roughly the same standard. Scholes had a slightly better short passing range but the difference was minimal. Long range passing and shooting easily on par with each other. On the other hand Gerrard could do things Scholes couldn't like Tackle properly, was a much better athlete - he could run past people with the ball, he was much stronger and very fast once he got into his stride. For me Frank was a better goalscorer than both Gerrard and Scholes and his footballing intelligence was unbelievable but again he lacked the balance to his game to defend as well as he attacked, and really lacked athleticism ( not stamina, he could run for days ) but he couldn't go past people with the ball, nowhere near as strong as other midfielders like Gerrard, Vieira, Essien, Keane and really lacked speed.
