I gave my son Johnny a similar razor a few years ago and I recently told him it probably needed cleaned. Johnny has Down Syndrome and doesn't like changes but after watching your video with him he shook his head and said that he wanted me to clean it. Thank you for going into such detail, it really helped me convince him.

Same here. It's deceptively simple to UNdo, but is very picky about being put back together. I invented about 10 ways to do it *wrong* before I found this vid. **Thanks S.W.!** Norelco over-engineered this contraption. Their older models were simpler. The newer ones use less power and are quieter, but at the cost of being finicky to put back together right. They should have an 85 IQ model, 100 IQ model, and the 115 IQ model. I'll take the 85, please. A working razor overrides pride. By the way, what happens if you mix up the covers, per intro? How does one tell the right combo? Maybe they need matching letters for us 85'ers.

I take apart and clean the heads once every two weeks... Very different from the Norelco I used during my college days (early 80s), which required alcohol or Norelco's head cleaning solution... Getting anything wet then would rust the heads completely out...

The three-blade covers have a recessed ring on the inside diameter that fills up with junk. I found for me, that if I dry brush everything first, the packed junk comes out easier. I use a cheap 1 and 2-inch paintbrush. I leave one long and I cut the bristles on the other shorter to make it stiffer to get into that junk-filled inner ring. After all the debris is removed I assemble and wash all the oils with dish soap, using the long bristle 2"' paintbrush and getting into all the nooks and crannies. The only other thing I do a little different is, I keep track which blade and blade cover go together and in which hole. I also make sure the clamp that holds the blades goes back on orientated in the same direction it was originally. This way when I finish, everything is exactly the same as it was before I took it apart. Does it matter? It does in my crazy mind. I figure the tolerances between the blades and foils must be very tight, so to me it can damage that tight tolerance moving them around in different holes, something like the rods in your car motor. Anyway, that's this reporters opinion.

Water causes the metal blades to corrode which dulls them very quickly. Yes, even stainless steel corrodes & of course the manufacturers want to sell u new blades more often. I never get them wet. Just apply a light oil after each use & they stay sharp much longer. U can use an old toothbrush to remove the debris.

Are you supposed to oil the blades?
@SterlingW84 жыл бұрын
Its been years, never oiled them.
@Jhihmoac4 жыл бұрын
Rob I - You don't need to anymore... That was back in the 70s and early 80s when the blades required a bi-weekly overnight soak in an alcohol based cleaning/lubricating solution... Getting the blades wet then would rust them completely out... When the company went to the "lift & cut" blade system, the heads started becoming rinsible... The fully immersible shaving units came a little after that...

Charge it. Make sure there isn't anything stuck. Clean and check everything before turning testing it. It may have stuff stuck in the rotating fingers. Worst case let the fingers soak overnight.

I have a Remington Rotary 200s shaver and I used the pop up trimmer today for the first time. I trimmed and lined my sideburns but I was only able to do it for one side. The blade teeth won't move anymore and the motor sounds like its struggling. I brushed away all the visible hair from the blades and added a few drops of oil but it still won't move when I turn on the shaver, even though the motor is working. What should I do?
@SterlingW86 жыл бұрын
+Glacius the blades may have been dislodged from the guides. I RARELY use my trimmer. I fi nd it slow. I have a hair trimmer instead. Normally I just use the shaver
@SK-qu4wo6 жыл бұрын
Sterling W Yeah that was my first time using the pop up trimmer because its not the best tool for the job. I just never expected the blades to be dislodged. When I move the mechanism manually with my finger the blades do move but the motor is not able to do it for some reason. I just wish they made the trimmer in a way so that they can be disassembled and cleaned. What can I do to fix it?

Do NOT mix cutters and combs...read the manual.
@SterlingW87 жыл бұрын
+urntwrthyZ thanks... lost the manual a long time ago.
@SterlingW87 жыл бұрын
your right! just downloaded the manual. I guess the blades adapt over time...
@2012redrobin7 жыл бұрын
Meaning (for blonds like me): Do not clean more than one cutter and comb (of 3) at a time, since they are all matching sets. If you accidentally interchange the cutters and combs, it could take several weeks before optimal shaving performance is restored. (per the manual). Use degreasing liquid (like alcohol) to clean the cutters and combs, one drop of mineral oil in the center of the head once a month to prevent wear.
@juancarlosl41337 жыл бұрын
I agree. I learned that with my first Philips shaver, 15 years ago. Mixing cutters and combs reduced the optimum performance at shaving. If mixed, they would take time settling down the small blades of cutters against combs, inside friction between them. Just giving a complement comment.
