If you have a Philips Norelco 4500 Aquatec electric shaver ( amzn.to/2qMJY0C ), it has a 12 month timer indicator for blade replacement. I usually get about 2 - 3 years from my shaver blades because i clean mine every week. I have a spare HQ8 blades and combs ( amzn.to/2vwc4lI ) but still use the originals from the razor. In this video I show you how to maintain, clean, and reset your Norelco 4500. If in question, follow your instruction manual or take it to a shop if you need help.

Great video. You can use foaming soap on these things (as long as the shaver manual states that it is waterproof.). Helps loosen up hair/dirt, and makes it smell good, and if you use something from Bath and Body Works, some of those soaps have oil which might help keep everything lubricated. (Or not. YMMV.) Another tip I have discovered - After cleaning, make sure you put the blades back in the same spot from which they were removed. Otherwise the shaver will cut differently and it might take 1-2 weeks for your skin to "get used" to the way it cuts. This is similar to any other break-in period when starting a new electric shaver. Hope that helps. Enjoy.

To use soap to clean - I run the shaver under water, then squirt some foaming soap (maybe also try dish soap if you want) and let it foam up. Squirt some more. Foam foam foam. Work it into the blades. Then rinse.

I use mine on my face everyday, and afterwards, rinse the heads out thoroughly... Once a month, I will take the top apart, and rinse and brush out the heads individually, making sure I keep the blades and combs together, as each one is a matched set...

Likewise, but lock ring on mine is loose, last night all the blades and combs fell out into the sink. At this point i think its moot. Lol.

How often is the "Extra-thorough Cleaning Method" as described in the manual required (opening the assembly and cleaning the 3 blades). There's a quicker method of just opening the shaver and running water over it.

Don't replace blades! Put an edge back on them by removing the blades, rub each on separately in circles over a flat leather strop. Use any strop compound you have but do a final strop on plain smooth leather. As you strop in circles, spin the blade slightly. Like new blades will last another year. My beard is tough but I smooth shave several years with one set of blades
Quickly Sharpen Electric Razor Blades . Don’t buy replacement blades
