ros serey sothea wroted steung kiev about her past love. she was in love with a boy from a rich family (son of lok ta ky sean ho). she was poor so his family rejected her. they made him marry the daughter of leader svay por commune. she was heartbroken so she then decided to move to phnom penh to become a singer. i was a neighbor of the ky sean ho family on their street number 3 in battambang province

@sarnserm It was Sothea's song, I grew up listening to her song and she was from my home town, Battambang. This was the song that made her famous for. Peou Vannary came on much much later. Houy Meas was also from Battambang, she was OK but not as famous as Sothea at that time. Now listening to Houy Meas, I love her voice more than before. Thanks for sharing, it brings back memories.

glad you agree because some of us old folks (cough cough) do remember this one to be Ros Serey's earliest success from 1967.. one thing to watch out when transfering from vinyl, is that producers at the time often distort songs by cramming them onto 45rpm.. Results? skewed pitches and singers who can't recognise their own voices etc..

I see...I guess that kind of makes sense. But it's rather unfortunate. In my opinion, "Kampong Luong Duong Chet", was probably some of her best work along with "Oun Snaeh Bong Pit", "Klen Snaeh", "Por'pich Jeap Euy (Saravan)" . Anyway, thanks for the info.
