Simply put... Steve Allen was one of the funniest human beings to ever walk the Earth.

Arlene: I'm detecting something adorable in that voice! Steve: I'll see you later! Steve's huge wit and personality were all over this segment. He was one of my heroes from the time I was a kid. I always liked writers and comedians, and Steve Allen was outstanding with both talents.

Steve Allen was easily one of the sharpest minds in that business and equally as genuine and nice and classy. There were/are some others. Mel Brooks comes to mind.

one of the wittiest and funny, quick wits ever---he also wrote over 4,000 songs, the biggest being THIS COULD BE THE START OF SOMETHING BIG--a good jazz piano player also----but i enjoyed his improvisational humor when he put a camera on the street in the back of the studio in california--check out his funny and quick comments as he played piano in the background--a genius of a talent to me

This clip is, by far, one of the funnest WML moments I've seen. I think that the one with Irene Dunne is fabulous, but this is hysterical! I never appreciated Steve Allen's talent until I discovered him on the KZbin clips of WML. He had a razor sharp wit and seemed to a genuinely nice man.

I recently came on to theses they're brilliant . I knew of Steve Allen from the Benny Goodman story I didn't realise how funny he really was and such a pioneer in the early days
@vibra646 жыл бұрын
The originator of the tonight show. Comedian, pianist, author of dozens of books, wrote thousands of songs. Also a fine actor "The Benny Goodman Story". A talent we will never see again. Makes what we have now and the past several years look like garbage. Which, by the way, is what we have.

Even when I just a tiny little kid I thought he was the smartest funniest man on TV. I loved his comedy more than the slapstick vaudeville kind that was usually shown. There are men as quick witted today but none with so much grace and dignity.

So witty ("it wasn't named BEFORE me!!"), so charming (Arlene's reference to his red-headed wife), so erudite (all of them), and in the end, so supportive and modest that Misses Francis and Kilgallen even plug his new book!! I miss this show.

Allen appeared 5? times as mystery guest and as contestant (1966) when he owned a motorcycle shop. I love this one best. GSN showed this 1958 episode in December 2008. It featured a cute young female who demonstrated mattresses in a department store; Bennett solved it almost singlehandedly. the head of the Women's Army of Israel. a male ballet dancer built like an accountant Dorothy plays seriously! and to win: when she gets lost ( 2:06 2:59 ) it is doubly funny. Thanx Kirba.

Writer, musician, comedian -- the talent of Steve Allen was on a monumental scale. Funny!! Who can compare with him today? Poor Dorothy Kilgallen seems to be lost in space in this clip, but she is still amusing, and at least she has a sense of humor about being lost. Is their a dummy? Not on this side of the stage. LOL

I suspect anyone who had heard Steve Allen yell "Schmock!" or laugh would have recognized the voice in a milisecond. That would certainly have been everybody there. Sometimes I think some on the panel, or in this case probably everybody, know right away and just play for awhile for the entertainment value.

Now you have to have noticed that John is always so enamored of his own voice and promoting friends of his who may have written a book or some such that he had no memory of his duty to promote Steve's book until Arlene, who is always on top of things, mentioned it.

I think they knew immediately that it was he. I think they were being good sports. NO, it's not HIM; it's HE. Nominative case.

@lagrangepoint93865 жыл бұрын
Nominative case should not be used in this structure.
@trainliker1003 жыл бұрын
@@lagrangepoint9386 True, sort of. That one is a little iffy. For example, you will see "Get him! It's him!". And not "Get him! It's he!". Neither is actually wrong. The difference is between formal and informal. Written would lean toward formal and spoken toward informal. The English language is quite a mess. For example, the contraction for "I am" is annoying to me. Why can't I say, "He is not as tall as I'm". Or what if I say, "I don't care how old I'm, I still like toys." (I know there are some rules - of sorts.)
