Love how respectful this interviewer was - asked thoughtful questions, didn't interrupt Stevie (so unusual when a man is interviewing a young woman) and had clearly prepared for the interview!

She’s already an amazing pilot. I used to deal with military test pilots when I worked as a flight test engineer.at Northrop and McDonnell Douglas-designing cockpit systems and avionics. . She seems more conscientious and methodical then many of those pilots already. I’ve been watching her flight videos and love that she puts the detailed check list run through in so many of them lest we forget how important that is…
@persistentone344811 ай бұрын
Right, in fact some of the most experienced private pilots just stop putting effort into the checklist and start to do things by feel. I think her method to memorize the checklist and always annunciate it out loud is a very good discipline, and it is not something you see done very often.

It impressed me that Stevie is so safety-conscious. My Dad, a pilot for many years, used to repeat an old saying among pilots, "There are old pilots and bold pilots, but no old, bold pilots." In other words, an experienced pilot will play it safe and avoid unnecessary risks in order to protect himself, the aircraft, and any passengers.

“Currency vs Proficiency” - an extremely useful concept in many walks of life. Thank you! 😊
@dr.robbackstein23482 жыл бұрын
I can really relate to Stevie's stressing the importance of currency. I started flying in the early days of my surgical practice when I had a decent amount of spare time to dedicate to aviation. My practice got busy quickly and I began flying less and less frequently. The little voice in my head telling me it was time to reconsider getting into an airplane on my own became louder and louder. Ultimately, I made the very painful decision to give up flying altogether, as I simply wasn't getting out to the airport enough to keep my skills sharp. I know it was the right call, but giving up flying was definitely one of the toughest things I've ever done, and I still often think about those glorious times in the sky.

Talking about women in aviation, my first instructor (in the early 80s) was a woman and she was a great instructor! I learned in Cessna 152s, 172s. Beech Sierra and finally Bonanza. For several reasons (mostly money) I haven't flown in decades, but the love for flying has never left. Thanks to you, and others who have taken me along on your flights. Keep it up Stevie!

Also, it's also for fun! I'm glad the two of you had this chat. So inspiring. Knowing things on the first day isn't always possible for everyone. That's what lessons/training is for! Brings back my memories of getting my Private Pilots license when 17 years old. My father was Airline Transport Rated and flew the F86. He had his own airplane which was a Lockheed 12A tail number 36P. Best advise he gave is never stop learning!! We flew that airplane down to South America and Central America and into Canada in the 70s. Make sure you become an AOPA member as they have a great legal plan. Long Island is THE Cradle of the Aviation industry. Funny she mentioned fuel management .... i spent my entire career involved with the aerospace and defense contracting sectors in one form or another, and one of the companies I worked for years ago designed the computerized fuel management system for the KC135 fuel tanker.

I made it work for me, only because I moved from military to contractor, and did a lot of commercial work along the way. I always had options, and always chose my path. No way I could have ever worked for FedGov my whole career. Suspect Mr. Harvey feels the same. That said, I echo your hopes that FedGov gets refreshed with new energy.
