Just have to say that anyone who knows vocals don't last forever, can't replace with new ones or just run down to GC and buy a new set. Steve did an incredible job to help Journey get back on the map during his years and Arnel propelled them back to places they'd never been before. Steve Augeri is an amazing vocalist himself but due to mother nature, we can't sing like we are 20 forever! Kuddos to Augeri for hanging in there like a true champ. God Bless!

If you ever have a chance to meet Steve Augeri, do not pass it up. Possibly one of the nicest human beings. No ego, just personality. Not a bad word said. Just a great guy! My young daughter couldn’t hear him when he spoke to her, so he lifted her up and held her to talk to her, then set her on his desk. He brought my son around his desk to talk and sign merch. Great guy, he did a solid for Journey.

Steve A is a class act and gentleman. At a certain time he was the perfect replacement. He did well and he deserve respect for that. Even though at one point of touring it diminished his vocal abilities. Even in this video, we can see he didn't fully recovered (and may never will). But hey, that's life. It doesn't mean he doesn't deserve our respect. I wish him the best of luck.

Hes using a different vocal technique here hes making his falsetto sound thicker and more buzzy. In Journey he used to try to Chest voice everything which only lasts so long even for Arnel.

Yah, your right, even the great steve perry lose his voice because of night after night touring, another one is arnel pineda at sometimes lose his voice because thier band member dont care with thier frontman anyway they think they can be replaceable. But kudos to arnel, he manage to stay in 15 years with the journey even night after night gig

I saw Steve early in his career with Journey at that time he was amazing! However a vocalist should be able to sing where their strengths are and the abuse of him having to go outside his range has hurt his performance over the years!

When he began singing for journey I was like that’s still Steve Perry he sounded almost similar to me in a way. He did a great job. My list goes Steve perry, then Steve augerie and then arnel. It took time to get use to Arnel but he does a good job too! At first I didn’t like him but I’ve gotten use to him and when I saw him in concert he did really well. Definitely miss Steve Augerie though. Good job!

Yeah, Pineda is falling off now as well. It's just a consequence of age and a grueling tour schedule. But in the case of Pineda they have built such a "success story" out of his being plucked from obscurity that they can't just toss him aside like they did with Augeri. That's not to say that Augeri wasn't compensated or taken care of during and post Journey, but it's going to be quite a bit harder to do the same with Pineda considering all the press hype surrounding his joining the band. They are already tuning down for the entire show with Pineda as well and he's still struggling to hit the notes.

I think people need to understand this guys time with Journey before leaving harsh comments on this video. Dude had really bad throat problems because he toured so much with Journey back in the day. And despite all of that, really and truly this is not a terrible performance by any means. You can tell he's had voice issues but I've heard a lot worse from singers who have healthy voices.

So true. Unfortunately like Steves, Perry had begun to lose his vocals as well in the late 80s due to the heavy touring. Steve had his throat issues and you can tell he doesnt have it anymore, but this isnt a bad performance, not by any means. Theres many worse than him, I applaud the effort on his half.

@@the_console-girl-9778 Agree ! people say Arnel is like superman on vocals .. and don't realize nobody ever was put through what Perry was . On the Frontiers tour , in some of the big cities , they were playing 5 nights , in a single venue . Never having keys tuned down . You can see by Raised on Radio , he could no longer sing like the previous 2 tours with ease . If this had been Arnel he would be finished as their singer in one tour .

Falseto sound "falsedad" in Spanish doesn't seem normal for Steve A back in his glorious days. But now, he utilizes a lot to maintain the tune. But it's good he's able to manage it to keep the music sung well notwithstanding in this part of the performance having merely entered the stage. Must have never been that way, but Steve Augeri had his legacy. Just like other rock stars...RESPECT.

Myself and my wife saw Journey in concert at least a dozen times with Steve Augeri as frontman. Saw them in 1998 in Detroit, in Augeri's first tour with Journey. His voice was AMAZING. At the time, I was THRILLED to see Journey on stage again, with Schon and Cain and Valery, and the great additions of Deen Castronovo on drums and vocals, and Steve Augeri. Augeri was AMAZING for about 5-6 years. We saw Journey in New Hampshire, in Massachusetts, in New York, in Connecticut, in Michigan several times, in Ohio, and all points in between. Our friends used to kid around with us that we were the oldest "groupies" Journey had. Then the ridiculous amount of touring Journey did finally caught up with Augeri. His voice deteriorated, and Castronovo started singing more and more of the Journey songs. The last time we saw Journey with Steve Augeri was in Connecticut, at the Mohegan Sun Casino Arena. Augeri had been reduced to playing rhythm guitar, Castronovo sang all of the vocally challenging songs, and Augeri sang the other songs. We knew the Augeri era was coming to an end, and we were very sad after the show. Like Steve Perry, Augeri's voice just flamed out. Steve Augeri was the PERFECT replacement for Steve Perry. He was a wonderful performer, and could sing the hell out of ANY Journey song, before his voice left him. To see him after he left Journey, such as this video from 2013, is a bit sad. His voice is STILL nowhere close to where it was in his peak Journey years, but he still has the same personality. Steve is a helluva nice guy. I am very happy, and sad, to see that he is still out there plugging away. Thanks Steve for the many magical years you fronted Journey. You resurrected my all-time favorite band, and for that I am forever grateful! There is only one Steve Perry, and there is only one Steve Augeri.

@TheProfessorOfLife you’re ludicrous, Steve Perry’s voice never “flamed out”.You corporate Journey fans need to stop writing that kind of bs. He sang a beautiful David Foster song after he left Journey in 1998, co-wrote and sang a beautiful duet with David Pack in 2005. His voice is lower but it never “flamed out” that’s a total lie propagated by hardcore Journey fans like you. His 2018 album was a top 10 hit. LMAO.

The only recordings made while Steve Augeri was with Journey are these releases. The song "Remember Me", from the movie soundtrack "Armageddon", 1998, Arrival (2001) Red 13 (EP - 2002), Generations (2005). I don't use itunes or know what the band has made available to them. Amazon has everything I ever tried to find on Journey and Steve Perry. You could check there. The also sell individual songs.

I have nothing against Steve Augeri at all. They pushed his voice beyond limits and them "improvised"' so they could keep touring. The classis Journey songs were not recorded for release because (IMHO) and that of millions, the releases with Steve Perry were so incredible, why release anything else?

In fairness to Steve A: Journey songs are real high notes. We know the rock and roll never dies but rockers do die including their voices. No matter how famous were they during their heydays, voice will deteriorate because it's basically produced by muscles and muscle weaken after 26 years old. You can only slow down its deterioration. But with Steve Augeri after so many years still surviving on the stage, he deserves a credit... and he's a great singer. "Higher Place", "All they Way", "With your Love", Signs of Life", "Remember me" and so much more to his honor. Perhaps James Labrie of Dream Theater has a better regimen for his voice that's why he's dominated over his voice deterioration..after all these decades.

Everyone loves the kid Journey has now, I prefer Augeri. 10x more emotion in the performance, plus he didn't try to mimic Perry's voice like the new one does, he made each song his own. Poor guy's voice is done, though, too bad

Chris Mennella Steve Perry himself said he can sing all his songs a half key lower in recent interviews. The Eels performance was a warmup and he sang them differently, more bluesy. David Bowie never sang Heroes the same way, and Robert Plant reinterpreted and sang Kashmir differently too for every performance. It’s boring for the singer to sing the songs the same way for decades.
