Steve, besides being such a great technical banjo player you perform like a real entertainer with the right positive attitude and a smile on your face. The way to go!

@tenorbanjo4 Yes, it is an original Vega Oettinger that I purchased on E-Bay 7 or 8 years ago. They are quite a bit heavier than the B&D ones. The banjo was my fathers, it was a Vega Professional that I hand engraved and had gold plated. Refinished it too.

That Vega is absolutely something else!!! Is it the Vega Deluxe? Saw you play it in another live show video and the sound was magic!! I play a 1926 Vega Soloist....think I want a Vegavox custom... Tyler Jackson plays a beautiful 1933 Vegavox Steve, you should have a listen to it on KZbin..the tone is ridiculous... Keep it up homie!! Quality!

By the way, Steve if you care to answer this question, what is the best place to start learning this particular style of the tenor banjo? There is plenty of learning material on BlueGrass banjo, still a lot on clawhammer, a few books on OldTime whatever that is but not much on tenor chord-melody.
@banjopa11 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed your question! Just noticed it. I am a tenor banjo teacher. I teach what I play and how to learn the best techniques to get out of the banjo what you want to play. My email is: banjopa1@yahoo.com if you are interested.

This is great! Do you have any tips for playing Dixieland tunes on a 5-string bluegrass style banjo? Would you recommend tuning the strings differently? I want to learn this style but all the videos I'm finding use a four-string and I'm not sure that they're tuned the same as my 5-string
@banjopa11 жыл бұрын
Hi Miranda, The style is primarily 4 string banjo, but you can use a pick on your 5 string to emulate the strums. No need to tune differently. Your tuning is close to a plectrum style 4 string bano. Look up some plectrum banjo players and watch what they do.
