@@the406seadonkey6 I'm not spitting on this band. I'm a big fan also. I'm just stating a fact that they're not the same band without Steve Clark. Those are facts! One thing I do hate about the band is how long it takes them to release an album. Still waiting on a new album. It shouldn't take 6 plus years to release an album. I mean c'mon!

This is something that is written about Steven Clark (word for word) from Page 2 on the cover of Def Leppard's Adrenalize CD album: "This record is dedicated to Stephen Maynard Clark, Guitarist and close friend. We all have different memories of him: from threatening to quit the band in late 1978, unless we stopped rehearsing and actually played a gig, to some totally off-the-wall "shape throwing" on stage with his Les Paul hanging down to his knees, or his off stage performances in bars and hotel rooms. It's a funny thing, thinking you really know someone, while slowly realizing there is more going on than meets the eye. The last couple of years of Steve's life were a battle. It stopped being about writing or recording our music, and started being about one man's lonely struggle to survive. Watching someone disintegrate right in front of our eyes is a tough thing, and even though it's frustrating as shit, it's impossible to stop. We learned about human nature and, trust us, it ain't necessarily pretty. Anyway, enough, steamin' had a hand in writing music for most of this recording, and music is what he'll be remembered for. We Miss Him."

The sound that Steve added to Def Leppard was special, and you could hear when it left. The rest of the guys are great musicians, but Steve's sound was special. He was my generations' lost icon. Just imagine what the coming decades would have sounded like with Steve still writing those riffs!

I met Steve right after he got out of rehab in Minnesota, when i lived in Vero Beach Florida, he was dating a friend of mine then who is also now deceased whose family owned a popular car dealership. I remember seeing many of his guitars that were at my friends home. I drove around with him in the back of my car for hours while he slept. He died a short time later after returning to London.....he kept me sober that day!

Him and “Betty” Janie were no good for each other but then again, Steve wasn’t any good for anyone at that stage in his life. @@leebaron3230 I was aware that he had a bunch of his guitars at Jane's place though I never saw them - certainly didn't steak any. He hadn't been in Florida long I don't thin and my encounter with him was specific and brief - I didn't even recognize him at first. Unfortunately Jane wasn't much good to anyone including herself at that time either, she'd been struggling since even before Steve. I'm sure they both had people on their sides saying it wasn't a good idea. But that's addiction and self will for you! Jane's end was similarly tragic but not as public.

I love the stuff he did with Def Leppard - when I first started playing their stuff I was amazed at the guitar parts he wrote - really original and worked so well together - like counterpoint . That level of talent meant that their music suffered with his passing and they turned out some really awful formulaic rock tatt. Collen is a good technician - but there are so many of them about & he doesn't stand out - seems more interested in taking his shirt off tbh. Clark was a really great musician who happened to play guitar. A real inspiration to me . Addiction can hit anybody and I'm sorry that he couldn't find a way out.

It's so sad that you were so unhappy and broken and that you left us all so soon! ♡ For those judging this beautiful man, he suffered from depression and anxiety. That doesn't just go away because you become successful. All he wanted was his father's approval and praise...he never got it. @@toriackley8402 didn't replace Steve. It was Mutt's (he's always been a highly functional alcoholic,) to have Steve go home by himself and receive some solace, rest, and go to rehab; He told him to take time off and enjoy himself by doing what he loved the most: composing music and playing. Little does anyone realize that Mutt was what had actually turned Steve into a hard core He. increased Steve's level of anxiety, depression, paranoia, and finally, hopelessness. Another person had the same negative impact on him. That person was supposed to be his confidant, the one he thought would stand by him. But she betrayed him, threatened him, and tried to own him as "A MAKEOVER she had personally done. Who did she think she was, going on a documentary and saying he was on Valium, antidepressants, coke. Oh well L, you were wrong and totally devoid of any knowledge of narcotics and addictions. 2 weeks earlier he had broken 2 ribs and was on opiates for the pain. When you do a blood screen, the test is very specific in that it breaks the drug down all the way to it's base- the metabolites. And how about this: She was so critical of Steve: "when I first saw him he had that awful hair style, and the way he dressed, those horrible shoes he loved so much, the Capezio brand, I got him to throw those away." Hmmm...at the time, L, Capezios were one of "THE" 80's style shoes. I owned 5 pairs. As for Steve's cause of death, ONLY the Coroner can publicly state what the cause of death is. The Coroner holds a very high responsibility. The coroner documents what the cause of the death was AND everything specific to the mannerism of the death. The media cannot see ALL all of the documentation the Coroner discovered, examined, and tested.and decided. Therefore, we as the general public, only gets provided the cause of death. And as for L- She road on his coat tails. She expected he would've given her the beautiful NYC apartment (condo) he purchased. NOPE. She then thought he had definitely left her "their house" in Chelsea. She stated she had put forth 1/2 of both down payments. Er...until Steve's attorneys presented her with all the paperwork. It was proven she DID NOT provide any monies toward either purchase. She tried to oversee Steve's papers, she assumed she would do that because they had been engaged at one time and everyone knew about her. NOPE. Steve's Father and Mother told her she couldn't enter each of his purchases, and that she was not allowed at ANY and ALL memorials, funerals, or at the ceremony performed at his gravesite. R.I.P. our beautiful legend Steve!

Crazy to think that we just watched all his murderers in this video. It's also crazy to think that the drummer has one arm because the attempt on his life failed. I wonder if he knows that he's been standing next to the people who took his friends life and crippled him for all these years.

You may have no idea just how right you are. I was a massive fan since Pyromania--my first rock album ever recieved on that Christmas I recieved that, Synchronicity, and Keep it Up (Loverboy)! Pyromania to this day, still my favorite hard rock album of all time. Anyway, I was greatly affected personally by Steve's story because I so tragically related. Having a psychopath and/or evil father 'can' be extraordinarily destructive to a son or a daughter's life. Most damaging to someone in the family singled out--that being me as the only one in my situation. It effects how one relates to others later on many different levels--anxiety, paranoia, trust, self-worth, starting a vicious cycle of victimization, and self-destruction. For sensitive people, it is the absolute worst scenario. Being an innocent child with zero experience, the world is a big place to try to understand and to feel safe in. You put much of your trust in those who you think have your best interests at heart, parent(s)--to protect you and to teach you. I grew up thinking my father was this great guy (a gp), proud of him and his accomplishments, a man of integrity, and most importantly a friend. But his true colors came forth, in late adolescence when I was profoundly hit with clinical depression, even catanonia for a day. Though I was very successful socially(popular) in grade school, as I later progressed became more withdrawn in shy starting around jr high school, luckily always had a handful of really good friends. But anxiety and depression got the better of me in High School. My father used to take me on nature walks throughout my childhood. Well, after I had to leave High School in the few weeks leading up to graduation, I was extraordinarily distressed (in full throng of a nervous breakdown) and he first told me an awful story about a serial killer that held a woman captive as a sex slave in Northern Californa for five years, and then he gradually tried to coax me into thinking and believing that most depressed people eventually commit suicide. He mistakenly thought he would be successful because I had been prescribed by that point and was dosed out of my head antidepressants--he thought my mind likely wasn't entirely my own in that moment in time. Despite all of this, immediately following this, I only blamed myself, and thought I must be a horrible person because why would a father do that(?), why would a friend do that (?), unless I deserved that. My perception was wrong (but I didn't concieve of this until years later, but before this revelation, I kept coming back to the parallel of some of Steve's story in how he tried to gain the respect of his own father to no avail and was tortured by it, sadly only reinforcing why I was being tormented also, because I too was not worthy of my own father's admiration. Years later, I only learned that I had fought for the love of a psychopath who actually only desired and enjoyed seeing my misery and destruction: my father was successful in poisoning me with carbon monoxide multiple times over a span of many many years in their (my parent's) home--further cementing my earlier suspicions of the true nature of his soul (if he even has one, he's very devious, cunning, and sadistic.) You ask what motive? Jealously, resentment, power, control, maintaining superiority through cheating and denying you of your life and your chance, your autonomy, manipulation, pure evil. A true coward and passive-aggressive parasitic vampire person taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable situation by seizing control of that person's life--ultimately through sabotage, and studying another's weaknesses, vulnerabilities over years to use against that person, isolating and preying on that person just ruthlessly and relentlessly, and ceaselessly, never stopping 'ever' in attempting to break them down physically, psychologically, emotionally--all mostly for his amusement and to push someone to the brink until they jump off, then you stand on their grave sneering with superiority.

When someone says ‚he‘s in my head and doesn’t go away’, or continuously points out negative criticism, that ‘bastard,’ as you say, was just a jealous, condescending bastard. I play some Def Leppard tunes when I’m practicing and I’ll play something like Rocket and play the different riffs and hooks and come away in awe at how it all fits together. That’s Steve Clark’s genius. There’s layers of it in every song of the Steve Clark / Leppard era. He’s one of my guitar heroes.

jeannettemarie1313 I think that Steve died of a broken heart too he never felt any love from his dad never really had any support from his dad and it really really hurts not to have that from your family it just hurts his dad always would put him down instead of encourageing him letting him know that he loved him and cared about him Steve felt like he didn't have that and Lorrie did everything she could to help Steve help himself but part of him just didn't want to live anymore he felt that he had nothing to live for. Depression is a disease I have been battling depression for almost 40 years now and it really really hurts I cry a lot often I took depression medicine but it didn't help prozac is a depression pill I've had those but I think that Steve is in heaven and is happy that he is free of all his pain that he suffered and went through

I saw him play twice in 1983. Def Leppard were still an opening act in April of that year when they toured with Billy Squier. They came back through in August and they were headlining this time with Uriah Heep as the opener. As I recall,, Def Leppard were still doing Led Zeppelin covers back then. But what I remember most is the massive talent of Steve Clark.

His then gf Janie Dean said when he came home after a night of drinking with his buddy, they laid him on the sofa and he passed out. She went to bed and left him on the sofa. In the morning at 9a.m. her interior decorator came over and it was her who kept noticing that Steve wasn't moving, just laying there in the same position. He had his head turned downward, motionless, but Janie remained non-chalant about it until the decorator insisted that Janie stop and go over and check on him! So she FINALLY DID, and when she touched his hand it was cold...then she noticed his face was blue and blood had been coming out of his nose, and his eyes were open. I wonder at what point he had died. It makes me sad to think he died alone on the sofa while his gf was paying more attention to the Interior Decorator. Sorry, I know I'm passing judgement, but she was doing heroin all the time, how dare she act like nothing was wrong.

Actually Steve drank booze with his buddy for 4 hours he then walked home with him and once Janie opened the door Steve collapsed and passed out then they carried him on sofa and went to bed then next morning Janie got up to check on Steve and then she saw there he had a blue face and blood coming from his mouth not his nose and she tried to open his hand but it was clenched shut tight.
