September 18, 2001. I tried to upload the monologue from this show, but it was rejected. If you'd like to see that and the Sarah Vowell interview you can download it here: www.megaupload.com/?d=6TPJBXGO

Anyone complaining about parts being cut out clearly didn’t grow up taping things off tv. You stopped the VCR during commercials to save space, and sometimes you were late starting it back up

1:09 "Which is why we need to figure out what the best way to deal with this is.....if we do something half-assed....it will add to everybody's frustration. I think we need to act carefully." Even as early as a week after 9/11, this dude saw how horribly the War on Terror could potentially go.

Thank you for posting this. I truly didn't realize they anticipated how long the war would be and also that it could essentially help create ISIS.

6:55 "...they're aware of things like that...."; I recall going into Sam's Club shortly after 9/11 for some innocuous item, and I noticed a middle easterner clearly wearing middle eastern garb, as if he had just got off the plane, pushing a heavy-duty flat bed hand truck stacked with personal computers in their discounted retail boxes. He pushed right past me not even seeing me with a most unforgettable look on his face of piercing anger, hate, and contempt. The hair on the back of my neck stood up. Without pause, I went to the nearest service desk and asked for a phone book. I looked up the Local FBI number and called on my cell phone to an immediate answer. I explained what I had seen, and my FBI listener erupted with her own anger. hate. and contempt. That I would waste her time with such an inappropriate call when I first and foremost should have called the local police, was her indignant response. I learned new respect for the auteuresse whom she believed, unapologetically, to have become. At that moment, I realized that practitioners within the ranks of the FBI believed in their hearts, that they were above the fray, and dependent to none beneath them, from their own conceited aspiration. I wonder now, what has become of this disparaging ingrate. Did she bully her way into her position of executive leadership? Does she continue to grind beneath her feet, those who would not foresee her magnificent grandiloquence?

Do you think his look of anger hatered and contempt would of been for his own situation that he now finds himself in, in the now changed world he lives in , of everyone expecting him to be a terrorist based solely on something out of his control. I mean you called the fbi on a guy who was just having a bad day.( a few days after 9/11) we where all a-bit angry

Mike Tuohey tells his story about giving some 9/11 bombers the keys to the kingdom; kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaKYpIKuhdRla9k&ab_channel=NEWSCENTERMaine@@ryanOGab ; I later understood this guy could have been angry for innocuous enough reasons. Additionally, he could easily have been under surveillance at that time by the FBI. Heck, was he a double agent working for the CIA in a honey pot scenario? Ultimately at that time, I needed to know, indubitably, that he wasn't going to participate in a successful terrorist plot. Funny thing tho, I got in line at a Sbarro Pizza parlor while shopping at the mall in Kuwait City only to find myself looking Osama bin Ladin directly in the eyes at arms length, giving him the High Plains nod (up) and receiving his patronizing minuscule princely bow only to experience a chirping chit chat interrogation from Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud as Osama's most influential associates surreptitiously looked on. I was a participant in some dark subterfuge between covert Saudi players and the CIA. At that time, I was cool as a cucumber, and really groovin' to the mood. I was not threatened in the least. Nonetheless, evil S#@! happens daily. People think hateful thoughts without acting them out. Sometimes mundane reality bores us to death. Therefore, I conclude that prudent vigilance is significantly important.
