Love it. Him, the song and the special word on his mandolin! Jeez, I love Steve!

Steve earle is a mucisian of ideals, and I love that, in this world of capitalist, inhumane slaughter and ignorance, that there are bluegrass artists who see things the way he does. Furthermore, this song IS dixieland, cus he wrote it and he can perform it any way he likes. I have listened to this version something over 78 times now, and it is easily my favorite song to date. Thank you, steve

Love that word he has on the top of his mandolin. I should put that on guitar, that way, I wouldn't have to say it so much when I trying to tune it! All I would have to do is look at it.

The Das009: I'm afraid, sir, that you have mistaken this lovely song, "Dixieland," about proud Irish and Yankee soldiers advancing on the South to crush the rebels and slaveholders, for the song "Dixie," which, while written by a Yankee, is otherwise unmentionable. Good day to you, sir!

Pretty damn good song there, Steve, and I really liked the presentation (at heart being an old 'folkie' from the 60's). What I don't get is what the 'FUCK' on the headstock of your mandolin brings to the party... Just sayin'.

Steve, Good stuff - Not to be critical just a little help on your pronunciation. I know you know your Irish stuff pal being friends with the Pogues and many other Irish musicians. The Irish who came to America and mounted campaigns and invaded Canada as you know are called "Fenians". It is not pronounced FIN-YAN. It is pronounce FEEEEEN - YAN. Shane would agree 100 percent. Keep fighting the good fight Steve. Much respect from the city of brotherly love.

I hate to say it, but your picky comment compels me to make one in response. Sure, his pronunciation of Fenian is a little off, big deal. But you realize that the Pogues were formed in London, James Fearnley and Jem Finer are both English. In fact, although Shane MacGowan was born to Irish parents, I believe he was born in Kent and lived in England quite a bit.

Dear, Steve. Love your work. Now, sing a song about the poor white farmer that never owned a slave but fought anyway because his brothers and fathers expected him to. Then came home only to lose his farm because they were so poor they had to sell out? Then got a 12$ a month pension only because of lobbying by The United Daughters of the Confederacy on behalf of Confederate veterans. Or, a song about the southern soldiers that didn't get buried or have memorials to until years after. Unlike most Union war dead that the federal government help bury and put up memorials too? Those very same Maine soldiers would want you to memorialize their old foe just as you do them. They were all American boys. thanks

His song Ben McCuoch does some of that.

i love how they ALWAYS gotta mention slavery like they are trying to blackmail the south. Thats not the only reason for the war. I could go on for 50 lines about it
@djdatteddys26336 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and don't you just hate how they always mention the Shoah when they talk about the Third Reich?
@kilkee5263 жыл бұрын
You could. But it wouldn't change the reality that the war was fundamentally about slavery. Ask Alexander Stephens or consult the secession statements of any Southern state. And read the Confederate Constitution.
