He is an incredible song writer. And as he said bands get famous for there great songwriting. And he is. So much that people dont realize that Miranda Lamberts first big hit Kerosene. She ripped off his music. The words to the song she wrote but the music part she ripped off of Steve Earle who didnt realize at the time. Listen to Steve Earl's Feel Alright then listen to Kerosene or the other way around but it's his music even down to the harmonica part. Nobody realized it for a long time. I believe I would be getting some of her money. But Steve Earle has been 1 of my favorite singer, song writer, and the music to go with the all. I can turn on copper head road and never get tired of that, Hillbilly highway, maybe cause I'm a Hillbilly, guitar town, they just go on. Mad props to you Steve and your great skill of writing and playing great songs as always. So good. Seen him in concert when that album came out and was awesome. Check out the songs I just said and you will see its Steve Earles Feel Alright to a tee other than the words. So she got a big boost up the ladder with her first #1 hit without people even realizing its Steve Earles she ripped off. Keep jamming and writing I can never get tired of listening to steve Earle. Thank You Steve for the great songs which made us great memories. 🥁🎼🎶🎶🎵😎🎵

I honestly have no clue how people are going to shit on Steve, it’s almost like they don’t realize just how old the dude is. He’s hands down one of the best song writers in country music and there was a time when he absolutely was one of the best singers as well. As corny as it sounds Copperhead Road is still one of my favorite songs to this day, it’s a tradition down at the Grizzly Rose in Denver to play it at least once a night.

I thought this was Steve Earle at his roughest and rawest. It takes a special kind of confidence to go into a broadcast environment and just pull a song out of the hat the way he does here. I'm sure he could perform it better in terms of technique but I doubt he'd recapture the spirit of this.

Musicians like Earle n van zandt. Are not "country" musicians. Story tellers. They are storytellers who happen to play music. As an example. 27 years ago I knew nothing about van zandt. Saw him open for cowboy junkies. Realized very quickly, the junkies where not in his league as entertainers n story tellers. He held our attention by himself. He wasn't a great player in any technical way nor was he a great vocalist who's voice soars. He,Earl, and so many more have no real "genre" . They live n breath stories attached to music. Cheers.
