Steve Farrar Baitfish - Charlie Hall

A favorite pattern for perch fishing but it works just as well for trout, pike, you name it. I prefer Steve Farrar fiber the for longer baitfish patterns from about 10cm and larger. The fly become stiff with this fiber but it creates and very side to side movement in the water, just like a small wounded baitfish. I like to fish the fly aggressive with hard pulls. When I fish for perch with this pattern i mainly use sink 3 to sink 5 lines.

excellent fly in motion. I strive for a subsurface neutral buoyancy & horizontal attitude that will walk-the-dog when i strip the fly in.

I use this pattern to troll for Trophy Trout. My biggest to date is 12.2 lbs. I have caught several Trout from 6 to 8 lbs. I troll it with a wiggle disc at 1.8 to 2.5 mph. It is very effective also for trolling for Striped Bass in the Delta where I live. They just can't lay off of a lone Anchovy pattern swimming by.
