Use This Fly When the Fish Won't Eat - Micro Minnow - Fly Tying Tutorial

In this fly tying tutorial, Cheech ties the Micro Minnow. This streamer/baitfish pattern has worked for us all in several different bodies of water. It has done really well when the fish are being super picky and only want tiny baitfish.

Wow! I've tied a similar fly for several years, call it the "guide fly" same basic profile, I use bucktail and a ep minnow head brush, can tie lots in a hurry and I always pull it out when nothing else is working! That's too cool you guys did this!

Love the look of that Mother of Pearl Ice Dub! And good ol’ white bucktail - there is no substitute. 😉 Love the simplicity of this fly, and it looks like one fish will want to eat.

About 34 yrs ago a local salt legend introduced me to saltwater fly fishing his name was Carl Hanson, one of his patterns was a simple inverted hook with wrapped body of tinfoil and the body then wrapped in light mono with white buck tail , it was called the crystal minnow , it was so simple but so effective, but this pattern adds the flash and extra weight of the epoxy head to make it look more real , and after all that’s our job as a fisherman to deceive the fish into thinking it’s the real thing , ya I’ll be tying a hand full of these to add to my arsenal 👍🏼. Well done !

Been fishing "fry-flies" like this for decades. From practical experience, the eyes are very important on these translucent little streamers - the predators seem to target them. Before uv resins, the eyes were difficult to glue on - always noticed that the flies with the eyes out fished the ones without by a large margin.

I’ve been tying a very similar fly for quite a while. I put a little throat of hot pink Fluoro Fiber on mine. Works really well in the lakes I fish on big bows n browns.

Where I live sometimes the bonito feeds on tiny baitfish and they won’t eat anything except the smallest and slimmest fly. This might work, will give it a try.
