As a kid I helped my father do sound for Steve forbert..didn't know how lucky I was at the time. Very good performer and very underrated. I found this song later in life , and it suits my current troubles all too well.

I love how Steve sings this song with so much emotion. You can see how he feels the lyrics as he sings them. I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan when my friend sent me "Alive on Arrival". I played that tape in total darkness with a case of Heineken every Friday night. Great time of my life! Thanks for the memories Steve!

One of my fav all time videos....I remember seeing it when it first aired....At the time Alan Freeman (BBC DJ) was touting Steve as the new Dylan and all of that claptrap, and in the process playing the songs which was a great deal. Good music on the radio...who woulda thunk?....I was working for 18 quid a week and couldn't afford new albums...so I saw the album at the record / tape exchange in Shepard's Bush..(turn left up the Shepard's leg...you can't miss it). Still have the record.....still play it. Some songs never die. P.S. Watching Steve taught me something about giving your all on stage. Thanks Steve.

And I've heard them saying Steve was going to be the next Bob Dylan. I don't know what he would have had to do for them to consider them to be the next Bob Dylan but whatever it is I'm sure glad things turned out this way. I like him the way he was and the way he is. I'd rather have one Steve forbert then two Bob Dylan's. Two wonderful and unique artists.

Steve Forbert has been a working musician ever since he along with others was tagged as the “ new Dylan “… which I’ve never understood… why would you need a “ new Dylan “ when the original Dylan… is still here and never left…? I’ve seen Steve play several times live and I’ve always appreciated his songs and efforts… he writes and plays… because he’s in it till the end… many thanks for all your music… it’s always meant a lot to me… a very underrated artist… ! 🌎🕊️

It takes skill to wrap up fatalism and hope together like this- a tear shed for the past and a plan made for the future, delivered with such grace you can't help but feel he's singing to you. I'd put it up there with the best of Simon, Costello and Darnielle

Agree with the comments below ... but, it does also show how a tight band of great session musicians can add a spark - not heard another version of the song that beats this version.
