Hackett is an absolute legend, you must hear Genesis - Firth of Fifth. It contains one of the best guitar solos of all time

Even though the video is already 5 years old, I would like to add something. You mentioned Marillion, but I hope you are aware of the fact, that this is off Hackett's first solo album, back when he still was with Genesis in 75. And the original singer of the studio version was Sally Oldfield, sister of Mike Oldfield 😆🤘

The bass player was Nick Beggs, now replace by Jonas Bergman. The drummer was Gary O’Neill, now replaced by Mark Blundell. Steve’s current band play all over the world sometimes doing reclaimed Genesis material plus some of Steve’s solo stuf. ‘The Hierophant’ was written by Hackett and Mike Rutherford as a consideration for one of the Genesis’ early albums, but never made it to the final version, so Steve used it on one of his own. Steve’s current band are brilliant and play to sell-out audiences - you really must get some of his current and later stuff - he has released at least one album per year since he left Genesis. The man in the top hat is Nick Beggs, who also toured with Steven Wilson. Think back to the 80's. Remember Kajagoogoo? He was their bass player.

"There's more than a passing resemblance to Marillion" It was early Genesis that influenced them, actually.

Listen to Steve Hacketts renditions of Musical Box and of Suppers Ready. They are the best. You wont regret it.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time, I love all the versions it has, including this one of course. Btw, could you please react to a band called Ulver? They started as a Black Metal band and then became an electronic/avant-garde/art rock/you name it project. You could look for the live versions of In The Red, Operator, EOS, or For The Love of God (although that one includes NSFW images). I would love to see you discovering their music!

Hey Jim! great video as always! ;) for older genesis: "supper's ready" and "firth of fifth" are great.... and let me suggest some old rock songs if you haven't heard them: "XTC - Complicated Game", "The Alan Parsons Project The Turn Of A friendly Card Part 1, and 2" and "Aphrodite's Child - The Four Horsemen"

Wow! I was thinking of recommending this one! It's amazing how aligned we all are in what we think is worth 'reaction-worthy'. As for your ideas below, of reviewing other forms of rock, I'd love to hear it alongside reviews of jazz and even modern orchestral. We are 'progressives' after all!

sorry that i always comment twice. the first comment is mostly while im watching and the second one when the video is finished. I think its a honest thing to comment the first stuff that comes to my mind :D So i totally agree.. it IS a bit folky. i would even draw some lines to Jethro Tull there. And with Steven Wilson coming in there.. it went from reaallly nice to absolutly brilliant hehe. love that song. And the headbangers were super funny xD I hiiighhhlllyy recommend : Listen and react to "The Flying colors - peaceful harbor" cause i kinda have the feeling that it will be a nice experience for you to listen to it and talk about it

I like the solo part and the ending is epic, but the singing part with the flute doesn't fit to my ear. At the start Marillion came to mind also. Listen to Steve Hackett performing old Genesis song Return of the Giant Hogweed with Transatlantic. There's a song!

Great video again Jim. I have only been subscribed for a week or so but I have watched lots of your videos and now eagerly await your next upload. Nice job 👍 But I am still gonna ask you to do Between the buried and me - Skelkies or Backwards Marathon. If your viewers don't know this band then they will enjoy listening to it. Always room for more tool, opeth, dream theatre and maybe some megadeth, not sure how familiar you are with them. Look forward to your next video. :)

Okay! here we go :D (little edit, picked wrong triddana song, whoopsie) The Flying colors - Peacefull Harbor (Awesome live version on YT without video tho sadly) it is a Song that gives me power to carry on and ..yes.. it makes me cry sometimes xD Jorn - Man of the 80's (i wish i lived there so bad^^ ) Joe Bonamassa - Blues of Desperation (official Video has good sound + studio footage) H-Blockx - Wish ( They are kinda the Limp Bizkit of Germany but that song came outta nowhere as a super awesome Rock song, no hip hop in it) Folkstone - la tredicesima ora ( did i just recommend Italian Folk-Rock? ..yup i did, and ic ant speak italian. says alot about the bands quality xD) Triddanna - raging fire ( tahts folk rock, hard rock with bagpipe from argentina... and its suppper awesome) I think thats enough for now, maybe some of those made you curious. i intentionally named some rather special music styles here. Maybe theres something that can suprise your community hehe
