Genesis and Steve’s version of them, is orchestrated to the tee. Each guy knows his part, like an orchestra, and blended together is incredible. This is why I love prog!!!

Steve Hackett is a greatly under rated musician. He has done some live concerts on dvd in recent years, well worth a look. Another favourite cover Steve did is the haunting prog rock, Court of the crimsom king, i think nearly as good as the original. As a genesis fan, i have seen them several times in concert in uk, at Wembly, Knebworth, Milton Keynes over the years. Thank you for reviewing.

Another superb reaction guys,just a reminder that i mentioned Nad Sylvans amazing talent as not just a vocalist but also a songwriter a while ago now and referred to a track off his .Spiritus Mundi album entitled 'You've got to find a way' where both Steve Hackett and Guthrie Govan ,both close friends of Sylvan and feature on the track with the most amazing 5 minute guitar solos,you really should give it a listen guys.Nad Sylvan is so underrated and this track just puts him on the pedestal he deserves,give it a listen,i am sure you will just love it.

Watching from the UK. The Firth of Fifth reaction came out yesterday and this reaction hit 5 hours ago here. I'm so glad you have relistened to 'Squonk' Nick, and re-evaluated the song. He's also done some pretty good progressive solo albums - Courting The Widow (2015) and The Bride Said No (2017) coming to mind first. He definitely is a fine story teller, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. (And I watched this video in Finland)

So glad you are reacting to Steve’s band. They are fantastic live. However I prefer the Genesis live version of Squonk on Seconds Out. I saw your initial reaction on Patron and said that you need to give it a chance through repeated listening. So glad you did as Squonk is one of my Favourite Genesis tracks.

Adding to my comment: I’ve seen Genesis at least 8 times, starting with Trick of the Tail in 76 through the 92 double album tour We can’t dance. Had tickets to the Lamb tour in 75 ($6.00 tickets) in Dallas, but cancelled because of lack of interest. Imagine that!! Seen Steve 3 times starting in 79 with the Spectral Morning tour, still have the program signed by him. Once in LA back in 2014 and last April in Dallas. He still has it!!! You have a lot to explore with Hackett.

I'm so glad that I've seen Steve Hackett perform about 15 times by now, unfortunately never with Genesis though. The energy is always there. The band is always top notch. Last time so far was last July in Zoetermeer, Netherlands (he played 4 nights in a row). At the time of this performance he was 71 (born in 1950). Saw Genesis live in 1978 in Maastricht (NL), Leiden 1981 (NL), Brussels 1982 (B), Rotterdam 1987 (NL), Rotterdam 1992 (NL), Rotterdam 1997 (NL), Amsterdam 2007 (NL), Düsseldorf 2007 (D) and Amsterdam 2022 (NL).

Saw them a couple years ago and they were amazing. Fungi was involved. He played solo stuff and Seconds Out all the way through. Suppers Ready was awesome. The whole band and singer were top notch. They had an intermission and, when I told the 20 something girl tending bar, "great show." She said, "yeah, those guys are killing it." See them while you can.

Watching in Canada. Was lucky to have seen Steve Hackett twice, once doing Genesis Revisited and once for mostly his solo work. He has a series of live CD/video sets that are amazing, each distinct from each other. The live at Hammersmith album has many guests stars. Strongest recommendation for the video of him doing Entangled with Jakko Jacszyk from King Crimson on vocals. It is one of the most incredibly beautiful things I've ever heard.

The track is my youth...we listened to it over and over again in the party cellar! As the third song on the first concept album after the Gabriel era, Squonk is Phil Collins' vocal baptism of fire! After PG left, they were desperately looking for a singer...and couldn't find a suitable one! Collins himself didn't think it was possible at the time that he would be responsible for the band's fortunes and success with his double part! Since a lot of material had obviously been processed, which was crowned by an incredible desire for experimentation, especially by Hackett's "guitarism", two albums were released in 1976! The 'Trick' and 'W&W' albums were the main elements of a second "Hackett" era, which reached its climax and then its end with the concerts for it and especially with the 76/77 world tour, which then resulted in the live double album "Seconds Out"! Since then, Hackett has continued to be successful with the tracks where his music played a key role...as was the case with "Squonk" at the concert in Manchester in 2021! I was too young back then, but later I experienced two Genesis concerts that still leave me speechless today! You should listen to the live version from Genesis "Seconds Out", which includes Steve Hackett. It's a great version. Actually,, the entire album is incredible. Carpet Crawlers is another standout cut from that live album.

I watched this video a few days ago and I’m in Ohio. Genesis is my favorite band. I saw them in ‘83, ‘92, ‘07, and ‘22. “A Trick of the Tail,” and “Duke” are probably my favorites. Favorite Song w/ Peter Gabriel - “The Cinema Show.” Favorite Songs w/ Phil Collins - “Evidence of Autumn,” and “Afterglow.” I can’t believe that the closest thing to seeing Genesis now is Steve Hackett. You two MUST see him.

Hi Guys, the stage set up is identical to the dvd I have Steve Hackett live > "Genesis Revisited Seconds Out & More" and I'm wondering this IS from that dvd ? ...The entire concert is stunning and apart from "Carpet Crawlers" that is a must watch moment ...I cannot recommend highly enough from this dvd ... "Suppers Ready" It is the most superior version I have ever heard and that includes by Genesis. It IS Prog Rock by far heavier than anything I've heard before. It truly brings this track to another level ...and OMG Nad Silvan !!! on vocals absolutely shines !!!!! I really have no doubt if you were to buy the 2 dvds / 2 cd's set you will not regret it. Sound + vision is superb + a 2nd dvd disc of goodies. I'm so glad Nick gave this track a 2nd chance. To hear this immediately after "Entangled" on the studio album is just stunning.... ; Lex ... I could not tell Phil from Peter for years and that's the original. Lol ... Nad Sylvan has melded his voice to sound like both ...so it's actually what this track may have sounded like had Peter not left ...which is just brilliant !!! Byee Jim X

I'm in the USA. I have been a HUGE Genesis fan since High School (the 70s). They are "Top 2 for me (tied with Pink Floyd). I saw them live on their Duke tour in the 80s (Chester Thompson on drums). This is both classic Genesis AND a Steve's slightly different-but-still-awesome performance!

Phil says he was going for the Kashmir/Zep vibe on this. This album proves again it was when Steve left that the band was no longer the same. No one has done more to keep the glory days alive than Steve.

There was definitely a change for the worse but as opposed to many, I thought ATTW3 and Duke were great albums. Abacab destroyed it for me, but it gave me the impetus to explore backwards to the beginning. I came in 'new' to the two I mentioned, with no preconceived ideas or biases for or against any individuals?

I've seen Steve 8 or 9 times live and he's brilliant. Just a word about the drummer here, Craig Blundell who replaced Gary O'Toole, I thought Craig was brilliant. Other favourite musicians that have played with Steve were Nick Beggs and Amanda Lehman!

If I may make one more recommendation from the Steve Hackett "Genesis Revisited" shows, it's their take of "The Battle of Epping Forest" from "Selling England by the Pound". Excellent performance by all, and Nad Sylvan's execution of Gabriel's various voices in this song is astonishingly good! (Here's the KZbin link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZTEeYh3a79nibM)

Hackett knows perfect how that song was, because he was deeply involved. Sure! Trick of the Tail 1976 were the first album without Peter Gabriel but Phil Collins singing everything for the first time, drumming also but just recorded in studio. In this version many melodic parts were done by the woodwinds that gives another sound to the song, that was quite straight forward compared to the other from the album.

I find it very difficult to listen to these songs individually. Dance on a volcano, Entangled, Squonk etc because they all lead into each other. I need to play the entire side of this album or not at all. It's like trying to listen to a song off side 2 of Abbey Road by the Beatles. Just can't do it.

As soon as I heard it I knew that it was tuned down from D minor to C minor, perhaps for the sake of Nad Sylvian's voice, but frankly upsets the voicings of the guitar, so the whole thing sounds wrong for me, like a cover version more than an interpretation/reproduction (which the bulk of Hackett/Genesis-Revisited succeeds at so well)

I prefer the original. Strange enough, I saw Hackett in 2004 live in Germany near Frankfurt and on that gig, he played zero !!!! songs of Genesis, (I was surely disappointed then). Ok.

Good version. Drums aren’t as good as Chester live, or Phil on the album (I’m a drummer, so can be too picky). I’ve seen Genesis back in the 70s and Steve Hackett more recently. We are very lucky to have Hackett keeping this stuff alive.
