Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett has been going strong since his exit from the band in 1977. During his tenure with the group produced their most iconic prog classics like "The Musical Box" from the album "Nursery Cryme" (1971), the 23-minute "Supper's Ready" from "Foxtrot"(1972), and arguable their best album "Selling England by the Pound" the following year.

I went to Grammer school with Phil Collins, he was a year ahead of me, we had some very creative school kids back then early to late 60's, Coincidentaly like Phil I also went to a Drama acadamy at the same time as he joined his mothers Barbara Speake Stage School.

I've seen quite a few of these interviews with Steve regarding the new album, but I think you drew more out of him than most of the other interlocutors, John. Mind you, he's a pretty friendly, open character, and treats it as a two-way process rather than someone deigning to allow people to ask questions of him. And congratulations to Steve for coming straight in at No 9 in the midweek UK album chart. I wonder if the young man imagined that happening in 2024 at the time he left Genesis? 👏👏👏

That was a big surprise hearing Steve mention his previous wife & touching on their relationship. Steve’s acoustic track ‘Kim’ is one of his best.

I wonder how much of Steve's unbelievably deep well-spring of inspiration and ambitious drive to produce great music well into his 70s comes from his well-documented trauma of his compositional ideas being pushed aside in his Genesis days by Tony and Phil? Whatever the flame, it's most unique, incredible and admirable.

Very entertaining and illuminating interview - his explanation/ reminiscences on the background for that line "When his boots hit the ground, he's taking you down" is amazingly funny and beautifully worded. The laid-back charm and sense of comic timing remind me of Chris Squire's classic account of his first meeting with Jimi Hendrix (also here on YT). 😃🎸

I am glad to see Steve Hackett is as sharp as ever. I consider Jeff Beck to be the greatest guitarist of all time but Steve Hackett is right there and has better songs overall. If Steve Hackett stops touring I am either gone to find out where he lives or just jump in a lake.

Nailed Jeff Beck "Achiles just died" Such a great comparison... I want to write that song...but I'm not worthy... only some one like Hacket can... the title is legend. Seven Stones must be his.

As much as i loved Genesis back in the day something ethereal left the band with Gabriel it was then you could really notice the divide with Steves work should imagine having to work with Banks was a nightmare players like him are all consuming mr H made the right move.as creative musicians go you have to be really fortunate to find layers who can leave their ego at home when fusing together.

Dare I say it reading between the lines, taking on board Steve's eloquent diplomacy, and some subjective observations with a smidgeon of research. Steve mentions his first wife who was very attractive ad also a talented artist. Yes she did commendably create many of his album covers and also wanted him to stay in Genesis perhaps longer than Steve would have liked to, given his reference in this interview to wanting more autonomy (Mr. Banks please take note here). Thankfully A Trick of the tale and Wind and wuthering are masterpieces giving Ms Poor some credit for her efforts to keep Steve in the band. Thus we have two albums that are much better than many Genesis albums that followed Then there were three. Ms Poor has from the legal history I am aware of, appeared to have subsequently benefited substantially from Steve's work. It seems a bizarre coincidence given it seems legal gagging orders not allowing Steve to elaborate, that she did also end up with his ex manager who one can only speculate must have thought a lot of Ms Poor whilst her and Steve were still officially a couple. At the end of the day I guess the most important thing is that Steve is happy and still able to make wonderful music. His new biographical album suggests he has found a contentment both personally and musically . I hope to see Steve performing with the Hungarian act Djabe this summer. providing evidence of just that

I really like Duke though. Turn It On Again and Dukes Travels, Man of Our Times, Behind the Lines / Duchess / Guide Vocal are exellent in my view. There was potential there, then Abacab album to me is completely dead. ATTWT never really did it for me. Nice music, just kind of weak and no depth in the produced sound.
