Everyone remembers the series, and everyone remembers how it started. A packed house at Lord's witnessed the infamous moment when Steve Harmison struck Ricky Ponting on the helmet, drawing blood from the gutsy Aussie skipper. That alone was hardly likely to stop a player like Ponting, but Harmison continued to bowl superbly, and removed Australia's captain soon after.

Probably my most fav series of all time. Still remember how Aussies trounced England in 89, and from thereon it was the same story one Ashes after another. Until 2005. Finally, after nearly two decades, England had an eleven that could go toe to toe in a war of attrition versus the Aussies. and What a series this was. Memorable. Unforgettable!

Rohanji, Ashes was played in the past with a lot of zest and zeal and the bitterness was palpable. Both sides had hot headed fighters like Flintoff, Brett Lee , Johnson etc.,. Now the players on both sides are level headed and less hostile. More over, with the advent of global tournaments like IPL, players from both countries are playing for the same franchise resulting in bonhomie. I still recall the Ashes played in the early 70's when the likes of Dennes Amiss, Mike Dennis and John Edrich were suffered body blows all over the body , especially on knuckles and fingers , at the hands of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson and had to be hospitalized . Such was the rivalry and animosity between the sides.

Looking at the team chart at 2:31, the quality of players in that Australian lineup and to know England still beat them 2-1 in that series, is, I think, a massive achievement.

Luke Smith Yeah, but for how long do you think it's gonna remain a rich country? We were rich too once. Time sure does have a way of reversing equations. Australia doesn't have the population to defend herself. When somebody does invade you lot, you'll surrender like the cowards you well and truly are.

Luke Smith the point was with the attitude of players. There is no denying that corruption is there but at least our players aren't such bad losers.
