At 7:08 Steve mentioned writing Sorcery 5 ... and you cut him off! I know you had lots of questions to get through, but I REALLY wanted to know more about this possibility, as the Sorcery Epic had a massive impact on my developing teenage mind, taking me to amazing places in the Old World through Steve's brilliantly inventive writing and John Blanche's always fascinating drawing style. What a magnificent combination! Sorcery was the absolute high point of Fighting Fantasy, with so many great characters through the four books and innovative developments in the FF system. I'm 50 now and I still pick up my old books from the 1980s from time to time and flick through the pages, reading random sections for the pure delight of it. My son is reading them now! This unique and complete world deserves one more outing. I'd love to see the Jackson/Blanche partnership again with a complete five part set (featuring original Blanche covers please). Are there any updates on this development from Steve?

I'll try to ask him at the upcoming Fighting fantasy fest in September. Very fond memories as well.

@@TheStoryMastersTales That would be fantastic, although September is so long to wait ☹️ Do you have ANY insider intel that you are allowed to disclose? The Crown of Kings 👑 so wonderfully concluded the epic, so I wonder what he might have in mind for a fifth book. Do you know if Blanche would be in any position to create new illustrations? I just want to say your interview was awesome and as a FF player from the early days I really appreciated it. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

As being horribly bullied at many different school's, I took great comfort in reading fantasy game books by yourself and others. There was one I simply couldn't finish and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it??? Anyway thank you for helping me even though you never knew it 👍👍

5:40 We wrote them for Dungeons & Dragons players. My friend back in my early teens introduced me first to Fighting Fantasy books, then to D&D. He got me hooked on both of them.

Steve was always my favourite author in the range as he was always inventive and original, and didn't want to do the same thing twice. His imagination really expanded the scope and ambition, not least with Sorcery!

This was great. So wonderful to hear from Steve Jackson about the creation of Fighting Fantasy, and D&D in London in the early ‘80s. R.I.P Albie Fiore.

When moving house during the late 80's - from village to town - that's when I truly discovered the FF series. My very first gamebook in the series was actually one of the hardest: Creature of Havoc (FF#24). I only managed to complete it around 2000 when consulting a solution you could find online. But I did all the groundwork of painstakingly decoding the coded text. Looking forward to reading Secrets of Salamonis; it's amazing how long FF has been going, admittedly with a few stops and starts, and that Steve is finally doing another gamebook for the Scholastic series. It's been too long in coming!

He is a great pioneer but I disagree in a couple of things:- I left Creature of havoc for being almost impossible to complete, so I dislike the book. Secondly, he speaks so fast from the people who left Games-workshop to publish his own gamebooks, of course he refers Joe Dever but he did not say anything about the unfair economical conditions imposed to members like Dever. I really like Steve Jackson´s work anyway.

Most modern boardgamers and DnD fans I know usually played Fighting Fantasy books back in the 80s. Not sure if there is a FF presence at any of the boardgames conventions but I'm sure they would get a good reception 👍 Great interview👍😎

22:35 The true path in COH is very knife-edge - it is a shame when the player went through many interesting locations, and in fact this often meant they were ultimately doomed to failure. I also found Sorcery! very tough and never completed them. The true path in House of Hell is actually quite a short one; the player doesn't really need to visit most of the rooms and locations within the House as they have nothing essential to completing the adventure, even though they added to the fun. And there were lots of secret passages and literal dead ends!

Should the world of Fighting Fantasy be made into several TV (live action and or animated) series and several types of video games and boardgames? I'm thinking on the lines of Fighting Fantasy getting the League of Legends' Runterra MMO and Arcane treatment.

I believe a board game is in the works. As to live action, it has been pursued before, and got close.

1- Showing support for this content. 2- Steve jackson is getting old. Hope he can finish his new FF book and get one more hurrah! from FF fans. 3- Does FF have the power to get someone like Neil gaiman to write a new FF? That could be a a way to get kids to buy new FF books and get them interested in the old ones. Brandon sanderson, the american writer, is another name with the strengh to gather some atention. 4- Concerning mistakes within the books: were those corrected between editions in the Uk editions or did they remained as they were? 5- As a foreign FF lover and collector i just wished we could get the option to print on demand the origial books. i would pay for them so if the option is not available someone is losing money. Or is there any legal issues stoping these from happening?
