Doesn’t give me answers but definitely gives me hope and the strength to do what I love while still finding what more I can love. To everyone reading this comment, please don’t give up if you strongly believe and love what you do. Life is so random, it’s not unfair. It’s not always beautiful. Just impossibly random. It's a shame he lacked wisdom in other areas: "Jobs resisted his doctors' recommendations for medical intervention for nine months,[165] in favor of alternative medicine. Other doctors agree that Jobs's diet was insufficient to address his disease. However, cancer researcher and alternative medicine critic David Gorski wrote that "it's impossible to know whether and by how much he might have decreased his chances of surviving his cancer through his flirtation with woo. My best guess was that Jobs probably only modestly decreased his chances of survival, if that."[166][167] Barrie R. Cassileth, the chief of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's integrative medicine department,[168] on the other hand, said, "Jobs's faith in alternative medicine likely cost him his life ... He had the only kind of pancreatic cancer that is treatable and curable ... He essentially committed suicide".[169] According to biographer Walter Isaacson, "for nine months he refused to undergo surgery for his pancreatic cancer - a decision he later regretted as his health declined""

The main difference is how many people would actually do something about it. @@mexicanlucky Okay, I have watched it and most of what the guy there says seems pretty reasonable, but somehow the quintessence of the talk is just that Jobs could have not been saved, but maybe eaten a bit healthier and some statements about the case were apparently wrong! There are still two other options that were not mentioned though: First of all, doctors could maybe have diagnosed and treated him way before 2003 and secondly, maybe the treatments he underwent until 2011 were just not enough!
@mexicanlucky3 жыл бұрын
@@eswarjuri Fair, even having an almost vegan diet did not save him, but, my humble opinion is that he died the day he let his health on doctors hand and set foot on a hospital. Whenever I feel low or depressed, or overly joyful, I come back here to hear these great words. It is powerful! as it is nothing but the truth. This speech is more valuable for me than my iPhone or MAC. Thank you, Steve Jobs, for inspiring me and many more like me to continue the road less traveled. My love for tech started when I was 10-11 at most, I recall listening to this speech and not understanding, but it a way, Steve came in where my father lacked. Few years went by, I went with Economics instead of engineering for my BSc b/c I got scared and didn’t really see myself capable of doing it. Now looking back, I felt regret all the way to the graduation date, as I felt that I had lost the connection to the only field I can truly enjoy. Now, 14 years down the line, somehow ended in technology investments, happy and ready for whatever opens up. Steve, THANK YOU, you were right, the dots only connect looking backwards!

Truly transformational words. I remember finding this speech in the spring of 2008 when I was an exhange student in Stockholm. It struck me with so much force, and I remember showing it to my new exchange student friends who were equally inspired. Steve Jobs was putting into words the exact philosophy of life that we were all trying to connect with and have the courage to live out. Later that year during the summer break, a group of us went on a road trip in an old Volkswagen bus, from Stockholm to Bergen… We would be listening and singing along to Life is Wonderful by Jason Mraz over and over again. And I remember these moments during this trip where I felt so grateful just to be alive and singing with new friends, and feeling that hunger and foolishness, and wanting to never ever loose that. After the Exchange program had ended, we would e-mail each other to catch up and would end our conversations with those words: “stay hungry, stay foolish”. Thank you Steve Jobs for this wonderful wonderful speech which we took to heart during the summer of our lives. And a big shout out to my special Erasmus friends around the world! Stay hungry, stay foolish. Matias

“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary”
