Very true, and this is why I don't want to work for large companies anymore. Too many b/c player managers in charge!

You need a majority of b players for any project to succeed. The A players just need to understand their motivations, and know they're not the same. I've been an A player and a B player in many projects. As an A player I know to assign tasks and not get frustrated if it's not up to my standards. If the workload is too heavy for myself, I'll assign tasks to people and then fine tune details. Too many A players can hinder execution

THE biggest problem with modern employers today, they have adopted Steve Jobs mentality and think they deserve all the A-players at their company, when they can't even afford them.

I find it useful to ask what hiring strategy is used "Quality, value, or speed". Everyone wants all 3, but in most projects value and speed is what is really required.

Human society needs all sorts of skills to succeed. Categorizing A and B and C players is destructive too.

People need to be categorized. There's no other way to build a differentiated idea of another person than to begin by categorizing them. It takes a lot of time to know someone as an individual, for at least the first few years your idea of them is going to be typed and categorized and based on heuristics.

Vision has to be the head, and diligent task grinding has to be the body. It's like anything, there's the part of the thing thats the matter, and the thing that composes the pattern of the thing. The workers are the matter, the leaders are the pattern/pattern-creators. The atoms are the matter, the molecule is the pattern they participate in together. The organs are the matter, you are the pattern they create.

Read “Now it can be told” by Leslie Groves the leader of the Manhattan Project. I think that was one of the unsung miracles of WWII. The lid of secrecy came down so fast that Groves never got the credit he should have - plus he made a lot of enemies.

I THINK THERE IS A RECIPE, LEX was on it, it has to do EXACTLY with Steve Jobs and A players self policing. BINGO! MACINTOSH TEAM was a team for the ages. Wow, please choose to Learn from Steve Jobs, not the other suggestion. Because you can only FOCUS your attention on one thing, Steve was a Original, an Icon of the greatest implementation of Hardware/Software in our known history, exemplified by Team Macintosh, assembled in 1978.

This guy is right and thankfully someone is saying it. Too often the myth of the lone genius creates a drags on progress. It logically does not follow--the notion that only A people can deliver A products is an example of the composition fallacy where the assumption is made that a characteristic of the part will necessarily follow for the whole. And does not follow empirically--this talk sums up some of the ideas on the relationship between group cohesion and effectiveness: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKrRkKuCp9mNl7s
