@@MastrHyperion98 UNIX like is just a more friendly term than UNIX clone as Minix (the os linux was built in and borrowed the majority of it code from) literally stands for mini-unix a watered down UNIX system for portable devices and is Posix-Compliant. they still both share many of the file system and software coding, most early Linux and UNIX code can be easily transferred back and forth between the OS's due to this. of course modern versions have evolved well past this and short of few similarities deep in the kernel left over from the legacy days. so while not technically correct to say that ios is derived from Linux they are in fact distant relatives and i think people should stop harping on the fact that the originals are "different" because to be honest they really aren't.

@@13blackg that isnt entirely right. Linux code base is hardly what you would call a copypasta. However since both uses the c library as wrappers for their system calls there will be inherent compatibility across the platform. Linux heavily borrowed design patterns and paradigms from unix more so than actual code. This is especially true today now that the operating system has diverged considerably. Unix like refer to a system that behaves similarly to unix but does not conform to the unix specifications or licensed. In this case, Linux does not conform to the unix specification and as such cannot be called Unix. Chris Tech Titus made a great video a couple months back about this. Maybe you should watch it

HAL 9000 is an artificial intelligence in " 2001 : A Space Odyssey "by Kubrick ( I highly recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it. You won't regret it.) Through the movie, the AI goes rogue and traps the main character - literally torturing him and letting him know that since technology is all around, he has no power. It's a very anxiety-inducing movie with nothing but silence and psychological torture mixed with the wonder of space and the unknown. Kubrick wanted, at the time, warn people about the danger of AIs and ... it's more and more relevant today. Sincerely, watch it. You'll love it.

I think wall street and super computers use unix not linux. Mainly because it is not open source like linux is, so it's harder to crack. Either way, they both share the same basic structure, so the reference still makes sense.

My mom recently passed away from Pancreatic Cancer and she previously had Breast Cancer but beat it. It's truly one of the worst cancers you can get. From what i've heard most people if any can't get surgery for it so it harder to beat it by just taking things like chemo and radiation. It's truly a sad sight to see one of your loved ones just go on suffering everyday while battling this horrible disease and becoming a different person. We all have a time when we must leave this world and for my mom that was almost 3 month ago. I believe she is now watching from heaven and doesn't have to suffer anymore.

congratulations you might just be the very first youtube reacter that got the PC reference :) also to really get what HAL9000 talks about you need to have used Linux OS for a bit, almost every single one of his bars are Linux technical references lol Linux is lighter than Windows, its coding manages CPU cores in a much much more efficient way and thus the CPU cores runs colder on a Linux OS, Linux OS uses installation packages from a "database vault" usually called Installation Software (or whatever the version developers decide to call it) to install the software the user might need, advanced servers and hardware often use Linux OS for its efficient and simple yet superior coding, etc., etc.
