I have just bought a fender Twin Reverb that used to belong to Steve Jones. It’s so fkn LOUD, and SO HEAVY!! It’s the one he wrote THE BOSS on the grill when he was on The Professionals, and I have the authentication. It’s in a flight case given to him by Joe Strummer so has The Clash logo and pink spray all over, under the current Sputnik paint job (which I love).

This video was an absolute joy to watch. Beautifully put together. Couldn't dream of being able to film in a more appropriate and historic location. Makes it so much more than just watching folks chat about a guitar. Keep up the good work folks, hope you're able to come up with more incredible content like this. You've definitely gained a new subscriber here. Now to start catching up on all the stuff I've missed!!! 😎

Steve Jones first Les Paul was sold at auction in 2010 for just over £16k. When the Sex Pistols signed to EMI Jones sold the guitar to Brian Chevette , the guitarist with Eater .
@WillyKidd3 жыл бұрын
Great story, glad to confirm that the guitar is indeed a '57. According to a recent Jonesy's Jukebox interview with J.C Curleigh, Steve acquired the guitar from Orange Music on Shaftesbury Ave or New Compton for £800.00, and the guitar would have been acquired very likely in March, 1977. It is first pictured with Steve on 3rd, April '77 at the Screen on the Green gig. Interestingly, the infamous "Ariel Bender" double cut Special with custom inlay work disappeared from photos around the same time so perhaps it went on part-ex toward the '57 LP. The "Flying V" shot mentioned near the end of the video was taken 24th Oct, '76 at their demo session with Chris Spedding, and the Flying V was given to Steve by Nora Foster.

Steve Jones owned a Les Paul before this. In late 76 he handed it to Dave Goodman who gave it to the punk band Eater , that he also produced. That one was auctioned in 2010 at Christie's.

@@gavinreid5387 Steve's first Les Paul was the ivory '74 Custom that came to him via Malcolm; he got that guitar in mid to late '75. You are correct about the other LP, it was a sunburst early '70s Custom with a Bigsby vibrola fitted. The back cover plate is inscribed with Wally Nightingale's name.

Fascinating video. I thought that Malcolm McLaren only leased the place for a year (1976-1977) then Jones moved elsewhere. But there is 1979 graffiti in there about the 4" Be 2"s, 'Youngy' is Paul Young, one of the members, and 'Sarah' is probably Sarah Dallin, a friend of the band (she appeared in a band photo) and future Bananarama member. What is also odd is Rotten / Lydon had left the band by then and was taking McLaren / Jones / Cook to court so weird that he would spend time round there.
@theintruder5401 Жыл бұрын
They had the flat upto at least 1980, Ed Tenpole rehearsed in there with cook n jones prior to them becoming the professionals. Also, during the court case Lydon Vs McLaren Cook n jones switched sides agreeing with Lydon & thats when Sex pistols residuals was conceived removing rights from 'Glitterbest', so they were speaking again after the san fran' argument, which was because they'd just played to 5000 people & been paid nothing. Maclaren famously taking all the cash he could upon his return to england, filling his pockets knowing he'd lose the case & fled to France.

Interesting stuff, thanks..... i'm sure the Pistols had a few French fans previously- they did play Paris in '76 !.....its very possible other guitars were used on 'Never Mind the Bollocks' - the lp tracks are from various sessions covering many months e.g. 'Anarchy in the UK' (with Glen Matlock on bass) was recorded around October '76, 'God Save the Queen' from early '77 . The likely reason for Sid not being in the photos is he was in hospital due to Hepatitis for a while & they DID all play on some tracks Most of the 'Audible bass' WAS played by Steve , he overdubbed what Sid had recorded ( though he did state Sid can be heard 'low in the mix' on Bodies)

This isn't right. Steve himself will tell you the white Les Paul Custom was used on most of NMTB. A Les Paul Black Beauty (NOT a 57...it was never a 57...it was a copy) was used on Bodies and EMI. Again, Steve has commented several times on this and even says he can spot the tonal difference on Bodies and EMI...
@SixtySixtySounds3 жыл бұрын
The guitar in this video, owned by Armand Serra, is the guitar that was owned by Steve Jones and is the guitar that is referred to by Steve as a Black Beauty. Same pickup configuration and serial number as the guitar he owned, it's essentially a '54 Custom but was produced by Gibson in 1957! As to which guitars were used on which tracks, I couldn't comment on that, but Armand is a guy who is very vigilant when it comes to his research before purchasing a guitar like this so I figure if anyone's gonna know it will be him, but who knows!
