In Lacy's solo at the end of the A, the pianist cadences in Ebm. The pain on Lacy's face is palpable, and again when everybody applauds. Sometimes it's hard.

I love the way Lacy filigrees Monk’s melody at the head of the song, and builds his solo organically from there, a little jewel of a master class in improvisation. And, who is that solid piano player? And, what & when is that smoky French venue - endless Vogue cigarettes, the Hipsters so much of another time & place: the girls all so fine and so cool, the boys with their [mostly non-Cannabis] cigarettes and fedoras. All so “en vogue”!

Un maestro del saxo soprano; es una constante fuente de inspiración para los sopranistas. Como lo es también John Coltrane.

The right name of the tune is"Round about Midnight". Not around midnight. Pay atention to what and how you write.

Loved Monk's music. Never thought much of Steve Lacy. He's almost atonal at times. After his brief assosication with Monk he leaned heavily on his music. I never understood why.

The soprano sax can be grating, no? But Steve does a great job conveying the melancholy and driven loneliness of some Monk and Waldron tunes.

I read a quote from Lacy that reads that he and Rudd played Monk "because it was a way of going through something to get to something else. . . . something on the other side." in "The Freedom Princple," 242. He heard something in Monk that opened a door to addressing something in the music.

Far before he met Monk physically, he had met and played extensively Monk's music. That's why Monk hired him in 1960
