The blues is the roots, everything else is the fruits... Willie Dixon knew a fretboard, but in saying that, without blues inflection all music isn't on par of this rudimental elocution of the shix stringer? Oh where would extreme music like grind, black, post, prog, avante garde, experimental be without Jeff beck and BBKing, let alone Jack black?????!!!!

I've been a Purple fan since 1970 and this guy is the best guitarist with the best attitude that this band has ever had....period!!!!
For me Steve Morse is very good technically but also great with feeling but first of all he is universal, can play from country style, bluegrass, of course rock and blues but also jazz. Simply Great guitarist, one of the best in the world.
@thinkcivil16277 жыл бұрын
His use of harmonics is incredible. Steve still practices 4 to 6 hours each day, even days with a concert. That type of dedication and love of playing is what makes him one of the best. He is definitely the best I've seen play live and I was blessed to see him when he was in his early to mid-20s. What a lot of people miss is how good and prolific of a songwriter he is. As noted by Andy, he covers all genres.

Love Blackmore. But I personally am a bigger fan of Steve Morse. Been listening to Steve since the Dixie Dregs days. His team playing, is as good as his flawless guitar. Watch the rest of the band smile with Steve. Steve Morse gave decades of life to the rest of the wonderful musicians in Deep Purple. Hope Blackmore is happy too. Peace.
@ellokittymew7 жыл бұрын
I agree. I saw the Dregs several times back in the late 70s/early 80s. In his prime, Steve was one of the best technical guitarists of all time. John Petrucci cites Steve as his main influence when he went to a Dregs concert at the age of 18. Since about 2010, Steve has broken his left arm and lost the cartilage in his right wrist, forcing him to totally change his picking style. He went from an anchored, "rolling" picking style to a stiff wrist for the fast parts and he is still learning how to do that. Catch him in his prime: type in: "Steve Morse Band -Live; 1990", or if you are a Purple fan, catch an early show he did with them: "Deep Purple Live in Poland - 1996, Full Concert" - By about the 3rd song you can see why over 50 years of shredding has taken its toll. He is still a great guitarist and is one of only 3 guitarists to win "Overall Guitarist of the Year" award 5 years in a row, retiring him into "The Gallery of Greats". Steve Howe (YES) and Eric Johnson are the other 2. Steve has a couple of great acoustic sets on KZbin. The best is "Steve Morse Solo Acoustic 9/26/90, Riff Raff + more". He attended the U of Miami School of Music and classical guitar was one of his concentrations. Two of his classmates at that time were Jaco Pastorius and Pat Matheney. Not a bad class.
