Steve Pemberton is genuinely one of the most brilliant talents this country has ever produced. Hilarious, terrifying, likeable, creative...he's got it all. His range is incredible. Inside No.9 can be a bit self indulgent at times, but by God it shows his acting and writing chops.

Finding out that someone as talented as Steve had no family background in theatre is really reassuring as someone who also has no family history in what I've wanted to achieve in my life. Shows you can be the best of the best and you don't necessarily need to have grown up with the right influences from a young age.

Steve's comments about being seen as very normal early on in his career, having no real interest in his appearance and just wanting to play the characters brought to mind a quote from the late great Ronnie Barker: I've always known I haven't a personality of my own, I have to be someone else to be happy. That's why I became an actor, I suppose."
