Heyup Wolfie. Fine bow sir. My Steve Ralphs D longbow is going strong after 6 years! I have about 2000 arrows a year through it...made with his last bit of Lars Ulrik high altitude yew and lemonwood. Feels like I shall have another 10,000 arrows through it and then I shall ask him to make me another. It looks like you enjoy archery even more than me. Smiling people are the best kind...

Well done on your work for Wolf Hall, the best representation of Medieval/Tudor archery on the screen I have seen yet.

I proudly own four bows made by Steve Ralphs a longbow simular to the one shown in the video ,a single wood longbow ,a re-curve bow and a Japanese Yumi bow ( the Yumi bow is a beautiful piece of art plus being a superb shooter ) I also recommend Steve if you want a good well made bow without breaking the bank

Got my first bow from Steve Ralphs, not bad really, great starter bowbut to see if the sports for you,still got some of the arrows! but I have saved up for a Bickerstaff.

I have the same bow, but without the horn insert. I find it stacks, making it hard work for its poundage compared to more expensive bows. But it's also very robust, thus convenient; I'm happy to manually string it, don't mind (too much) if it gets dropped, don't worry about warming it up and so on. I also use it at it max draw, as I find it easier to pull to the ear and lock, so I use it above the 55Ib. On most of my other bows I wouldn't risk it, but I know this bow can handle it.

I've gone longbow (made by Will Lord) and love its simplistic demands... It's a stick and string so everything technical is down to you and your skill set
@RexOrwell8 жыл бұрын
Clinton I What's the poundage mate and how much d'ee charge you?

As a novice archer now for 3 years now I have nothing but love for our passion. When I started learning about archery I always looked at people such as yourself (Of whom I have a lot of admiration and respect), and the "Grey Archer" who is also to many something of an educational mentor in the archery sport. You guy's have been a great help that has allowed me to better both my posture which was lacking when I got into this and simple things like anchor points and gear selection. But now the question, Which do you prefer? Recurve or the long bow? I am into recurve.

Thank you for this video! I am wondering...would you be willing to do a small video on selfbow/longbow care? particularly a yew English longbow?? or some other single stave natural bow, like Osage orange, Ash or Elm. There are no videos on youtube which show a person waxing/oiling a yew warbow, care for the timber, and waxing the string etc. If you are new to natural bows, pure timber, no laminates or fibreglass... it is very difficult to learn about bow care.. like 'warming up' the bow before use, how often would you need to oil it, how often to correctly wax the string, even setting up the bow, like stringing/unstring her, and storage.. do you lie her flat, or leave her upright. Just imagine teaching this to a complete novice... coming from laminates, and fibreglass... this is a whole new world to me. Thank you, and sorry for the long message!

Wolfie my name is David Hughes and there a good chance that you and I are distantly related. My family tree goes back to Wales. But then crossed the big pond for America and so here I am watching you and loving instinctive. Archery myself. I suppose that it is possible that this love runs in the family.

Does the long bow not need both parts of the wood to be as good as it can be? I heard one ancheos or pulls the other and that's what gives it its elasticity and power, looks great and your glasses are good safety as well, enough one eyed long bow archers :)
@michaelcolloton69717 жыл бұрын
I bought a longbow last year. It has a very small shelf, but I was still regularly embedding quills in my knuckle. I now use a bow glove, but I'm left wondering how you prevent that happening in the first place..
@Wolfiesairbrush7 жыл бұрын
Michael Colloton it will probably depend on accurately placing your nock point on the string at the right place to get enough lift from the arrow without driving the fletchings down to your hands.. !!

I'll check out Albion Archery. Cool that you were involved in Wolf Hall! Did you say you took the shots that we see hitting the target? If so, did you use an English longbow, or something else?

you say about form on films ;) but your draw isn't the grate you need to roll your right arm and shoulder more, push with you left arm and be more side on, weight on your front foot. that way you can draw a heavier lb bow
