There is a flat/kink in the upper part of bow. But hell, this is part of the beauty and challenge with using natural materials. Well done sir. Great job!

Sir i have a question i hope you might help me out with, where i live i dont have bow good string material like 'Dacron' or similar, and shipping it in costs a lot, what i have in hand right now is nylon sewing thread and 'Loctite 55 pipe sealing cord' what would you advice me to use, also paracord weights a lot and stretches quite much thats why i dont like it aswell. Thank you
@DreamcraftBows2 ай бұрын
You can try using linen/flax twine. It's cheaper than professional string making materials

Is there a reason why you make all of your bows with such light draw weights
@bobdoodle65273 ай бұрын
Beautiful bow and awesome craftmanship. I would like to know how much will it cost for you to make a Yew Longbow with a 50lbs. draw weight and at 29 inch draw length with cow or buffalo horn knock and shipping cost to San Diego, California, USA. Ps. knock should be like size as shown in similar longbow make., hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

I live on the Canadian prairies, there are no Yew trees here, any suggestions on what would make a good piece of wood for a bow. Most of what we have are poplars, cottonwoods, as well as ash, elm, and some oak, although most of these hardwoods are gnarly with a lot of knots. Any help would be greatly appreciated
@jean-micheltanguay86643 ай бұрын
Ash or elm from your list. I will try this with maple and birch
@austinkingsbury45613 ай бұрын
Ash, elm, and most oaks can make some good quality bows. Where I live we have humidity problems which can Rob the bow of performance and causing it to take set. So one amazing technique to really improve the quality of the bow is fire hardening the bow. You can look up Keith Shannon and Thad beckum for videos on how to fire harden and it can really help produce high quality performance in the bow.

If there is a Windsor plywood in your area you can get Osage orange wood from them.

Ash and elm will work very well. In fact both were used traditionally. There was a time when the English ran out of native useable yew to make bows. So they resorted to importing yew staves from Spain. But then even this source was closed to them due to failing diplomatic relations. It was then that they resorted to using alternative materials for making bows. Ash and elm were their two primary choices. They are not as desirable as yew but when you are trying to equip an army of archers numbering in the thousand, ash and elm were good enough.

The bow is absolutely beautiful but honestly it hurts me to see such a beautiful stave of powerful yew produce a 35lb bow
@seanbyham78383 ай бұрын
Same. That was a war bow stave all day.
@hansimgluck92073 ай бұрын
@@seanbyham7838 Ehhhhhhm no? The stave had growth rings that look like 2-3mm which is quite a bad quality as stated by the bowyer himself below the video. The higher thickness of yew grwoth rings is always "produced" by softer parts of the growth ring, the harder part will always have the same thickness. So if you have thinner growth rings you have more of the hard woodparts in the stave. The best yew consist mostly of dense hard wood due to slow grwoth and very thin growthrings. Its absolutly not the quality if you want to make a warbow. I honestly wouldnt waste my time on that piece of wood at all. Beginners could use it.
@joekane18443 ай бұрын
Most yew staves can’t produce a war bow, it need to be pretty old and dense growth to make a strong bow
@seanbyham78383 ай бұрын
@@joekane1844 do you know this from experience? It seems there is some truth in what you say but it’s not entirely true. Small growth rates/small ring yew generally is probably better but I have seen coarse or fast growth rate yew make a war bow too. I just see so many people in the bow building online world hear something said by some authority and then spread it around as if it’s gospel truth, always true all the time. Not quite sold on the “fast growth yew is trash” story.
@joekane18443 ай бұрын
@@seanbyham7838 I’ve only made one yew bow, only about 50lb. My grandfather made a couple tho and that’s what he always told me. Plus it’s the same with other woods, the tighter the rings the denser the wood

@DreamcraftBows22 күн бұрын
Powodzenia z Twoim projektem!

Minor quality stave....low bowweight is fine, but why: The huge horn nocks (slow down the bow) and D-profile? Both doesnt fit the wood quality and drawweight. If you want to improve, make less bows but invest more in design optimization and finish which honestly looks very hastely done. If Robin Hood was a real existing person and archer, this bow would have been a toy for his kid.
