in case anyone was wandering, this piece goes through three sections in which it changes its mode 0:00 - I (Db Major) 5:50 - II (Eb Dorian) 12:50 - III (Bb Natural Minor) (these are actually just approximate marks I made for studying this, but I'm leaving it here for everyone) (note that these are only valid for this recording; other performances may vary, as such is the nature of the piece)

This is peace of the art. Marimba like instrument is not giving many chances to express some important parts of human soul. But when You are listening this, You are feeling Yourself not a human with flesh, but so easy, like a weather, like cloud. And this is just because of the Steve Reich - the perfect musicion and artist with big hart. Live 1000 years. I love You, like human, Steve REICH

If you say so... but it's also your thinking. I don't know who told you Reich was a "musicion" with a big "hart". But that's pretty silly in itself. And funny. Enjoy your flesh and humanity. I gotta take a shit now.

I think this demonstrates how big of an impact Reich's music has had on our culture- in ways we might not even be conscious of. I notice Reichian sounds in movies, TV, commercials, and like you said, in the news reports...

This song is especially good because it can give you a completely different perspective to listen to all music to. I can feel the music in my body and mind, with scenes unfolding in my imagination. It's also amazing to hear contrasting pitches on the same note because of the nature of marimbas, which is not one of frustration with intonation most other instruments have. This piece, to me, just like "Music for 18" and "Octet" involve an experience where it feels like I'm communicating with a god. Steve Reich is a genius.

I wrote an amazing piece for "7, 654, 321 marimbas and a Tuba", but we are waiting to clear cut a Brazilian rainforest to obtain enough wood for the marimbas.
