Mr. Steve Smith in drumtalk and boy, what a pleasure it was! this episode has it all: useful insights on playing, hearing and understanding the drums, as well as stories from the past of jazz, fusion and progrock, on technique and approach and on top of that a lot of humor throughout the entire thing!
Love it!

Steve is in the top three of my favourite drummers. I had the huge privilege to meet him in Chicago for the 2019 Drumfantasy Camp and I had a blast. Fantastic drummer with what I call the "perfect technique". He can play literally anything.

Even with all that wealth and wisdom of drumming knowledge he possesses, he is still admittedly learning and evolving. That's great coming from a professor like Steve. Still going full steam ahead! Love you Steve!

What a lovely interview, it's so inspiring to hear Steve Smith talking about anything actually. Really love when he got interested about the conflicts that Philipp has experienced.

I Have always had the greatest respect for Steve's work ethic, his in depth studies and his love for the art and craft of drumming as applied to all of the musical genres he is involved in. He is forever a student of the drums and of the discovery of the infinite rhythms that await all drummers to process, learn and to play. His technical skills are of the highest degree of excellence enabling his musical voice to express itself with the greatest of ease and musicality.

Yes! The late 60's and 70's prog rock/fusion was at the time called "jazz rock", Bill Bruford said the same thing.

I wish all the people would understand that a good musician is a good human . Someone respecting the world , animals , nature . If you don't you can't become musician like Steve Smith . Musician is a person with an amazing soul . The technical stuff is just a way of expressing

@@dannymartinez9371 Fred Gruber. Steve Smith was already an awesome drummer before that though with plenty of chops. Steve Smith and Vinnie Colaiuta studied together in the 70's. I bought the Enigmatic Ocean LP from Jean Luc Ponty (Mahavishnu Orchestra) in the 70's which had Steve Smith on drums. That was my introduction to him and I've been following him ever since. One of the few drummers that kept getting better and never disappointed live.

i think journey is through , they were through when Steve Perry left. but they got a second chance when they hired Arnel Pineda , then they fired him and he got a better job , now they fired two long time band mats and i think there done with . there drummer is one of the greatest and they just discarded like trash , well if they get royalties and the people in journey are trying to stop them ill not listen to another song from journey again

Bad interviewer.... Too much "I´s" there. "I learnd a lot of these ..." o-O who cares what you did?! really professional camera but please, think befor asking.... Well done Steve :D, thats maybe one of the hardest parts. Even listen to those people... I mean, he didn't even get the right name of the "Groove Blue Organ Trio" in the header^^ "Me as a metal drummer " Best example at 26:03. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZWwm6WiqK2oosU
