Steve Stevens is a monster player. Period. He and Billy idol belong on every single shortlist of greatest singer/axeslinger duos of all time. My favorite quote about Steve Stevens came out of one of the guitar mags back in the day. During a studio visit where Steve was recording the first Atomic Playboys record, the writer of the article commented that he heard the most incredibly precise, machine gun like rhythm playing he had ever heard. Every strike was perfect and in perfect time. That kind of rhythmic precision and excellence, to me, really describes a core element of Steve's playing style.

A woman I know went to a large group dinner in San Francisco and Steve Stevens was one of the guests. She said she fell in love with him the minute they started talking. He was very humble and oozed cool , with no rock star attitude at all. Just a great guy.

Here’s an example of why Steve Stevens is great: In a decade, when every rock guitarist wanted to be soloing ala Eddie Van Halen gymnastics, (and Steve has the chops also), he takes an 18 bar solo in White Wedding , instead of blowing, develops a very simple, but beautiful, weaving, melodic part, which resolves like a satisfying end to a movie. That instrumental guitar part cut through the noise on the radio and holds up great through time. Dude was smart.

Steve I used play at Zappa's during the early 80s.I saw you many times with one hand clap.You were amazingly exceptual even in those days.You even saw me rehearse at my studio on bath ave in Brooklyn.As i was leaving you paid me a compliment and said "your a really good bass player."Coming from you i regard that as the greatest acknowledgement that I ever received back in my playing days.I'll never forget that.Thanks for the memories.

Well Steve I am nearly 73 years of age and I have to say that from 1960's to today without a doubt you are up there as one of the Guitar Greats . I could never in all honesty designate you the Greatest. For me it was Jimi Hendrix , Sfevie Ray Vaughan , Jeff Beck , Eric Clapton etc etc. There have been so many.
