I own several Vintage MXR 6 band Eq's,a couple10 bands , and for post Eq I have an Empress Para Eq ,Boss Para Eq, and 2 Furman PQ3's and a PQ4 rack units. Jerry Garcia, David Gilmour to DIME, and just about every other well known Guitarist and probably many of the people commenting know the importance and advantage of Eq's as well as Overdrives,Tube Screamers, and even Treble Boosters. As soon as Pete engaged the Archer OD w/ the Eq strips dead center it sounded great. It really looked like you were enjoying yourself Pete. What can you say about Steve Stevens. One of my favorites and not so long ago I believe he was under appreciated. Not so much it appears. Great pedal ! 10% to Children's Cancer ! You guy's rock.

You know it's an amazing pedal when Pete just hits record and starts spitting fire! I've been running an EQ after my mid-humped OD for years to make it work with my Voxy style amp and also been eyeing an Archer pedal. Stoked to get my hands on one of these!! All hail Steve Stevens (and you too PT).

Steve Stevens has been one of my fave players for over 3 decades, and not just because he's a fellow New Yawker like me. :) I actually ran into Steve eons ago in a music shop on NYC's legendary 47th street - what an incredibly nice, humble guy. One of the guitar mags back in the day [in an interview with Steve as he was laying rhythm tracks down for his first solo record] brilliantly described the power and sheer chronal-precision of Steve's rhythm playing as metronimically perfect, his right hand hitting the strings in the most ideal way possible every single take, every single chord. That has stuck with me for more decades and I absolutely can hear that sheer precision in Steve's playing every single time. And it is a fact to anyone who knows music that without Steve, Billy Idol would never have become the megastar artist he is today. Yet another classic example of a perfectly matched singer-guitarist set of bookends. Page-Plant, Daltrey-Townsend, Axel-Slash, Blackmore-Dio, Blackmore-Gillan, Roth-Van Halen, Stevens-Idol....And let's not forget the immortal Raygun on a MICHAEL JACKSON record either. Pete, brilliant works as always - but then again, we expect nothing less from you :) How's the new album going??? And please tell us Steve is guesting somewhere!! cheers guys...AWESOME sounding pedal.

That's a very useful idea with the graphic EQ. Most drive pedals I've seen don't have that many ways to shape the EQ, usually having Bass/Mid/Treble or just a Tone knob. I'd like to see a high-gain distortion pedal that has a graphic EQ. I could tell you were having fun with the pedal here, too. You seemed super excited the entire time.

Consider putting a switch for the EQ position, before or after the drive circuit. To me, the best application is before the drive circuit to give clarity to your overdrive tone. Just like having a wah wah before your drive pedal.

Did you get a haircut, then time-travel back for the last part of the demo!? Very cool pedal. I liked the Archer, but wanted a little more upper mids. With the EQ, problem solved. Almost every Od pedal I've tried could use a little EQ tweak! Does the EQ add hiss, like the GE-7, for example??

Hi Pete- awesome video! Quick Q-- with the tone at 12:30 where you drive the crunchy rhythm even more, is that unique to pushing it with a pedal versus cranking the gain on the amp channels itself?
@PeteThorn7 жыл бұрын
Steve Greenberg I think that when you combine a pedal's drive with an amp, you can get a different color- because you're combining two different overdrive sounds really, you can get a noticeably different tone than you would with the amp at the same distortion level, if that makes sense. Now whether one is better than the other is subjective!
@steveg2197 жыл бұрын
cool, thanks for the reply!

This OD looks literally like THE swiss army drive pedals. Not only for a drive pedal. You could run this after preamp pedals to add some compression and tone shaping when you have to run an amp below it's optimal Master Volume setting. You can stick it in your effects loop to shape the post- preamp signal, cut it to lower the level going into the output section. You could also give it a slight bump if you have to keep the amp volume down, it'll fill out that low end thump that gets muffled at low volume. Etc. I am curious as to how it'd do against a Tumnus deluxe? I know that's just 3 band, but if they're more tuned to guitar frequencies it could be more useful. Though scoping the freq sliders it doesn't look like they used the same standard frequencies that you normally find. But I haven't checked yet.
