It's really unfortunate because Steve's overall vision artistically is what gave birth to every "New Wave"/New Romantic" Bands makeup artistry and visual imagery in their videos hands down. I think during this period Boy George's, Spandeu Ballet's, Human League's massive success delt Steve a huge blow to his ego and pride massively. He will never admit that. Visages video to "Fade To Grey" was literally The very first semi 80's advant garde expressionism that so many bands copied.

Good old Steve..I can't take my eyes off him when he's on celebrity scissorhands..All his little jerky movements(nerve damage caused by heroin & cocaine abuse)along with his quirky mannerisms & spiky humour (& hair!)..Looks pretty good considering. His biography was a good read. I'm very pleased he's one of rock n roll's survivers & still going strong..Stick with it Steve! Good on yer mate!

1985 his golden era was long over, visage without Midge Ure was hopeless

Although Steve was very much the public face of Visage, the band musically was Midge Ure and Billy Currie and when they left, there was a noticeable drop in quality. With respect to Steve, he wasn’t the greatest songwriter or musician and vocally, he was helped, especially on the first album by Midge, who you can clearly hear on most of the tracks.

Steve says at 2:10 his new project THE STRANGE CRUISE was going to be with fashion model LEZA CRUZ singing with Steve (they were friends...She was a gorgeous dark haired model from the 1980s, a muse of Jean Paul Gaultier...google her...”LEZA CRUZ’ there’s even photos of them at a club together!) but ended up with WENDY WU (who used Cruise as her last name for the recording).

However he didn't seem to realize that visage musicaly was the result of Midge Ure and Billy Curries musical genius. Without especially Ure Steve Strange did have a good voice but not the musical genius to write great music....

This is like the ultimate 80's cliche presented by Snooki. I adore Visage of course, but slightly trainwrecky.

Bad shape, poor Steve... never knew why he didn't keep his Welsh accent, anyway. It must be some sort of rockstar-glamour fashion in Britain, to acquire a 'nearly London' accent... Anyway, @nwlman, you're definitely right, aye: they were lost without dear Midge (huge Rangers fan, which makes me even more proud)

I’m assuming due to his legal issues with his management company at the time, Visage had no label deal anymore or the label simply lost interest. Yeah, maybe he was going through a substance problem at the time, so what. He was very much human. Easy to sit back and take someone’s inventory. At least he was still trying to move forward and stay active as an artist.

@progress2007 i tend to dissagre. the debut is a classic on all counts, but the anvil is of equal quality, and doesnt get half the credit it deserves in my oppinion.

Three brothers - Gary, Steve and Pete. The guitarist for Visage in 1983-84 was actually Andy Barnett.

But whence Steve Strange's style and "voice" without a catchy song such as that to sing?
@progress200715 жыл бұрын
it's interesting, Midge Ure claims ownership of Fade to Grey, but without the style&voice of Steve, it would never have gone where it went. It is too bad though, because the debut Album of Visage is the only really good one - the later ones are nothing in comparison. The production values went to Ultravox, but Ultravox was in no way as cool as Visage.
