I saw Devon and Steve at the Station just north of Orlando FL in the mid 90's. Awesome show. I had never heard of Devon. He came out wearing adult polka dot pajamas resembling a Wonder bread bag and Steve with M&M pants. Devon's range blew me away. Then on top of that, halfway through the set, he picks up a guitar and keeps up with Steve. Holy six strings !

I loved this album when it came out, and I loved Devin's work on it. I gotta admit this is some crazy-ass take on this song. It almost has a freaky P-Funk or maybe early Chili Peppers vibe going on (maybe Oingo Boingo?) with all the percussionists and decidedly not rock-band instruments (standup bass?? WTF?). Vai has said that this album was a difficult time in his life, filled with influences that were uncomfortable, and it certainly shows in his playing and the disconnect in the performance.

Rhythm and horn sections remind me of old Frank Zappa gigs. Non surprising because Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai were once with Zappa.

I can't believe I didn't know that... So we really need to thank Frank Zappa for indirectly giving the world the talent that is Hevy Devy too!

TM stevens playing bass with the lineup - the true bass player from the album, super cool. You can really feel his tone in this.

Still trippy that this was Heavy Devy's beginning. It's so far removed from SYL haha. Sex and Religion is a pretty tight album.

Who would have guess less than 5 years later that weird bald kid that sang for Steve Vai would make one of the angriest albums of all time.

Impresionante.
