I had a chance to meet Mr. Satriani and have him sign my guitar years ago before a G3 show. Such a nice, unassuming man. I was a little star struck, he asked my name, and I just stood there like an idiot staring at him smiling.

It's great to have a mentor guitarist to help you along the way throughout your career. Unfortunately, most of my mentors have died. And that is sad, because they were great teachers. And they could have taught me so much more.

I saw these two play in Boston when I was in high school. Yngvie Malmsteem was THE OPENER. It was an absolute shred fest. Yngvie hit so many unbelievably high notes (pinch harmonics and all that) that I remember having the audacity to think 'how are the next guys gonna follow this?' I believe the tour was billed as "G3" because there were 3 Guitarists. Satriani was the closer but I admit my personal highlight was Steve Vai with a triple-necked guitar. He started this piece solo (his band exited the stage). The dude had a fan on his face so his hair was blowing and there was incense wafting and everything. I believe he must've tuned one of the necks to an open chord, left the other two in standard, but I could be mistaken; I know he was not fretting one neck and playing it more like a drone; I believe one of the necks must've been a 12 string but I was at a distance and memory is foggy now; and he used one neck for leads/soloing. In other words, he played rhythmic accompaniment with no looper. Truly mind blowing stuff. I believe this was the same year I saw Marcus Miller.
