i saw mike mangini at the back on the drums. cant believe he once played with steve. thumbs up to both of them.

best drum solo I ever saw was Mike playing with Steve Vai on the Ultra Zone tour. He basically played a swing beat and added stuff in, but kept that swing beat going the entire time just adding more and more inbetween. So cool.

@@shred5 Portnoy can do better. Btw, just kidding. I love Mangini just as Portnoy.

@@blackblackblackxxx Funny that you mention that because back in maybee 2002 or 2003, I saw Dream Theater in Boston and Mike Mangini joined Mike Portnoy for the drum solo too. I liked Mangini's solo with Vai because instead of making it full on show off time, he did everything with a beat. It was rather creative and unique that way

Mangini adds so much color here it's ridiculous. My favorite period of his playing is this concert.

I don't understand why he don't play this song live anymore... Is his 3rd best song, after For the love of God and Tender Surrender.

In my opinion because it's too hard...this version sound nothing like the studio version I'm serious...he skipped all the brilliant and difficult stuff (which make this track interesting to me) This was poorly played. And I have a very high opinion of Mr vai
@pavanellibooks8 жыл бұрын
Its hard indeed, take me a very long time too play it good... But I think that if Vai played it more he could play very better than this one... he plays tender surrender a lot and its just at same level

so it was disappointing...if you go listen mozart at the opera house you wanna hear all notes and cry of joy...the same should apply to steve vai...but nope! Much respect for him though

Sometimes you just improvise and follow where your heart leads your fingers. That's a real professional for you.
