Man Uli Roth isn't trying to show off, he's just feeling it, that's how it is supposed to be. and btw his tone makes me travel through the clouds

I _love_ his tone, so many people can't get past the fact that something isn't bad simply because it's not what they're used to hearing. If most people couldn't then none of these guys would have ever become famous. On the other hand, none of the three here were trying to show off, that whole idea is absurd. These are players who became great by doing what feels good to them, what sounds right in their own ears.

Like it or not: these modern days guitar superplayer are of monstous virtuosity and can play like hell. No classical musician could do that improvising thing. It is not so easy since Jimmy Hendrix songs have been played to death. This performance is really cool.

Uli Roth and Morse are both same-timey as Hendrix; Of the same era. Roth in particular is known for influencing many of those "modern shredder" types; Yngwie basically just lifted Roth's style and claimed credit for it.

Almost every symphony player who plays guitar can play better than any rock musician. Learning to play an instrument well enough to be a symphony player and learning to read music to play symphonies is a far more complicated thing to do. Rock musicians had a chance to create a new style of rock virtuoso, but it was more about the sex and drugs, losing it to technology, not growing as musicians for the public.

Guitar playing isn't a race or a competition. Mr. Steve Vai nailed the infamous Hendrix flavor, complete with Hendriv style chords and licks.in his rhythm. They all need to turn down the gain (distortion) and lay off some of the stomp box effects, the volume swells and the other Van Halen-style tricks. .

After hearing Steve Morse here, it's hard to believe that he almost subbed for Al Di Meola in the acoustic guitar trio with McLaughlin and Paco. So yes, I was expecting more from Steve Morse, especially in terms of speed and alternate-picking. Maybe he was holding back because it was Steve Vai's gig. That sure didn't stop Malmsteen from running rings around Vai and Satriani at G3.

they could totally play the blues to your standard. play the flat 5 all day and play question and answer all day with pentatonic and the maj 6, all that... some players choose to be different. they are expressing themselves in a unique way instead of complying with a standard. that should be valued too. it is a different story if blues is your thing (like gary moore or joe satriani). every good guitarist can play the blues. some just don't want to do it in a way that has been done 1000 different times, simple as that.
