Agreed, my pov, McCaw is charming and handles refs well. Walsh probably would rescind the call if he reviewed the vid. But take another look - he turns his head away from the tackle just for a bit as soon as Hoyles hits the deck and for that moment, a ref would assume that he was tackled and crawled away from it. Easy to see how he made the mistake. As everyone knows, it doesn't help one's chances if one mouths off. Disrespect stings and one is bound to feel the karmic remnants eventually.

Don't get me wrong, the try decision was wrong. But at least there's one ref today who backs himself and doesn't constantly second guess his decisions. The referee's decision is final. Hoyles saying "that's a rubbish call" deserves marching back 10m, whether the decision was right or wrong. There is far too much of the football mentality creeping into the game there days, too much diving, backchat of referees, gamesmanship and professional cheating. And poor, aggressive and bigoted attitudes coming from some "fans" too. Rant over...

Then the rugby commission should do us all a favour and make the process for hiring referees more vigorous. Because the standard of refereeing hasn’t improved since this comment was made, I’m inclined to say it’s worse even. Because I don’t think you realise how frustrating it is to have a referee who makes bad call after bad call and then wonders why people are pissed off at him. And maybe the referees decision being final is the issue here, probably why we have the TMO now since referees obviously can’t be trusted to make the call on the spot.

True, but you never mouth off at a ref, especially Steve Walsh. In the build up to the 2013 6N decider, I had English mates complaining about the ref ...BEFORE the game FFS! You don't play to the laws, you play to the ref.

i agree that is was a bad call, but the ref is human, playing sport especially rugby involves playing the, rickie mccaw is the best example of this, he will never get sinbinned because he knows exactly how to play refs, he will never speak back to them like hoiles did hear, no matter how frustrated he is,

the ref is a god on the pitch, you play by his judgement or you don't play at all. this is not football, don't talk back to referee's enough said. they make bad calls a lot, they also make lots of good calls, they are only human, and in these instances they are the humans that you are not allowed to question if you are a player.

Lol and 4 years later all you haters get proved soooo wrong as he retires the best reff by far atm. Every reff has bad games....but he's not corrupt at least.......can't say that in SA can you?????
