I've never rated Scott Mills. He was on Heart 106.2 before Radio 1. He was actually good on Heart, perhaps because he was clipped and confined to what he's good at, which is introducing records and giving time checks. He's evidently the token gay for Radio 2 daytime. I’m still digesting the utterly devastating news re. Steve Wright’s afternoon show. I have been a loyal listener through the decades. Steve is everything to the show. His wealth of experience, people skills, knowing exactly when to intervene, banter with the team, creativity, knowledge, honesty, humour and upbeat personality make the best radio presenter ever! He’s simply outstanding! I live alone having lost my husband and then my partner, Steve’s shows have got me through the darkest of days but also given me immense pleasure with conversation and music. He’s just like a friend. I find comfort in hearing his voice around my home/car like he’s talking to me personally, a rare gift in this profession, his programme is often the highlight of my day, I look forward to it daily. I rarely miss if I do I listen on the I-player. I don’t understand the thinking behind this appalling decision. Steve has moved with the times, the programme is well balanced with music of all types including the golden oldies choices of listeners, Serious Jockin’, interviews, features, factoids. His enthusiasm for all of this is second to none. His salary is justified as he is of the highest quality. Hearing Scott Mills cover Ken’s and other shows he makes numerous mistakes especially with Pop Master, he talks about himself lots and thinks he’s on Radio1 which is so irritating, he is not in Steve’s league and never will be. If the thinking is that we will get used to him in time, this won’t happen. Since Simon Mayo left I no longer tune in to Radio 2 after 5.00pm. Likewise with Zoe Ball’s Breakfast show. There are better radio stations around. I am disappointed to hear that Sarah Cox’s show will be extended by an hour, she is again a very irritating presenter. I dislike the direction Radio 2 is going in and I won’t be listening after September, losing a very loyal listener of many years. Hoping Steve Wright moves to a radio station where his talents will be truly appreciated. I will then follow him!

@Amperzand true. But…Lisa tarback and Sara cox are dreadful.. and.. O’grady show is a -bit old fashioned . tried them once or twice had to switch off. But that’s just my opinion.

@@sofiaplatini3273Fair enough. Just realised they're all northerners! Maybe that's why I love em! But we're all agreed Scott Mills sucks right?! 🤣

I've been listening to Steve Wright in the afternoon since 1980 on Radio 1 on AM. Later on Radio 2 via internet. So sad a good programme stops. Thank's Steve for many years of good radio and fun!

Steve Wright was always my fave DJ back in the '80's on Radio 1. On one occasion I was driving to work for an afternoon shift and he told a joke that literally made me laugh so hard I was crying and could barely see where I was going! All the best with the new projects Mr Wright. Mike in Perth, Australia

You have been part of our working week for such a long time and will be sadly missed by all, no more Radio 2 in the afternoon for us ( Scott Mills No) then, take care Steve and thank you from us all for those fantastic afternoons

WHAT! The geezer keeps us going working. FFS! Why? Just because he's been there a long time. Think of all the laughs. Bad decision.

It shows what a true pro that Steve is, that this announcement didn’t interrupt the running order of the show and waited right till the end credits to give the news. A true legend of radio, probably went on a bit too long at the end, but Scott Mills has some huge shoes to fill.

The BBC obviously don't care what we listeners want! Absolutely gutted by this news, the show is always fresh and uplifting so why on earth do they want to replace it?

Exactly! Just what you need for that last couple of hours at work. Ridiculous decision from the BBC. Scott Mills is terrible too. They will lose listeners in their droves.
