Steve yzerman scores one of the most memorable goals in recent playoff history.....

I was 7 years old when Yzerman scored this goal. The game was going too late so my parents made me go to bed after the first overtime even though I threw a huge tantrum lol I was obviously way too excited to go to sleep so I crawled as quiet as I could from my bedroom back to the living room and hid behind the couch watching the screen from the crack between the arm chair and the side table. I still remember hearing that PING!!! When he rifled that shot from the blue line, my mom jumped up from the couch, my dad let out a unbridled joyous yell and I involuntarily sprung up from my hiding spot hooting and hollering while simultaneously scaring my parents half to death. They were too happy to be mad and we celebrated as a family watching the replay over and over. One of my favourite childhood memories.

@ghilledhu7 жыл бұрын
Yeah Casey played great in this series too. He's one of those goalies who had the misfortune of getting beat by some of the all-time greats. Until Pronger and MacInnis came into prominence at the end of the decade, the Blues of the 1990's (and before) played great offense and had good goaltending but did not play defense. Check out Brett Hull's +/- stats on those years he scored 50 in 50. He scores 50 goals in 50 games but goes for like -30 for the season. Almost literally all they did was score.

It took EVERYTHING Detroit had to get past St. Louis in this series and they simply didn't have enough left in the tank for the Avalanche. I was watching the local broadcast and remember the late Dave Strader saying “Steve Yzerman wins it with a bullet!”

Yzerman is the Best Captain of all time. better then all, even Gretzky. Gretzky was a great player but not the best Captain.

TommyCage0736 So which captain is better? Gretzky was the better player, but I can't think think of a skater who was a better leader then Yzerman.

So Gretzky made one bad play and that somehow cancels out his title as best captain? As far as I'm concerned you measure leadership by how well your team does. Gretzky won more stanley cups and scoring titles than Yzerman. Idk how else you would measure that.

Didn't say the bad play had anything to do with it. The Edmonton Oilers won the cup the year after Gretzky left, so it clearly wasn't his leadership that was winning the Oilers games. His great play yes, but not his leadership.

As a Sabres fan I HATED that team growing up, a literal team full of Hall of Famers but was also Happy to see Hasek grab some cups with them.

Grew up in St. Louis, and was watching this live. This was a dagger right in the heart. Stayed up late to watch it, too. School was not fun the next day for several of us.
