Definitely one of the smartest and most technical players in the history of hockey. Incredible hands, intelligence, ice skating. A real gentleman on the ice. The advantages of Datsyuk can be listed for a very long time, but the magic that he created on the ice is the main thing. His execution of the bullets, will forever go down in history. The Magic Man...

Likely the player with the highest pure skill level I've ever seen play the game. I grew up a Blackhawks fan in Chicago, but Datsyuk was always one of my favorite players to watch. His puck control, his poise, his hockey IQ...he was innovative and dangerous every time he touched the ice. What an absolute joy to watch. Every goal on this list, if it were scored by another player, it would likely be their single best goal ever scored. Datsyuk was just different. An artist on skates.

The guys born around my time and who grew up watching the same hockey as me are now starting to filter into the league and you can just tell they were imitating Datsyuk in their driveway in the 2000’s, then they were really getting them down throughout high school and college/on a farm team in the 2010’s, and now they are filtering into the league and they are making what he used to do seem normal and I love it.

The problem with the Red Wings was they had ao many players from Europe and mostly USSR. We in America never realized how important winning the league was compared to the playoffs. Europeans find the league title, rhe entire years body pf work was more important than a best of 3,5,7 game series where a hot goalie or injuries can change the outcome. They grew up watching soccer and hockey which didn't have playoffs. Ibe read about numerous times. I realize Patsou was past most of this thinking but the early R Wings trams that had players from that USSR wagon had that thought (at least I've been told by former players, coaches this was truth )

Some pro hockey player on another NHL team said that he and several of his teammates the next morning tried the Datsyuk move on Turco, skating on one blade as he finished the goal. He said they all fell down and ended up in the corner every time they tried to do the same.
@timmyjohnson11955 жыл бұрын
No doubt that move was one of the best ever especially with it being during a game but it really isn’t all that hard

Any true hockey fan knows that Datsyuk in his prime was the best player in the NHL, if not the world. Neither Sidney Crosby or Ovechkin could match his 200 foot game.

Well, yeah on the ice statistically, no
@brandons91382 жыл бұрын
@@glenngouldschair390 It just depends on what stats you are looking at. Pavel Datsyuk Career +/- he is a +249 in 14 seasons. Sidney Crosby in 17 years +196. Ovechkin in 17 years is a +79. Take aways: Datsyuk 754. Crosby 530. Ovechkin 575. Give aways: Datsyuk:380 Crosby:759 Ovechkin:865 There is a more to hockey then just scoring goals. Datsyuk's defensive prowess plus his dangerous scoring ability made him a more complete player than Crosby or Ovechkin. Players when asked about the best player in the NHL at the time cited Datsyuk as the best in the league. The one guy you did not want to see skating up the ice with the puck, or the guy you didn't want hounding you for the puck on his defensive end. I'd much rather have a team of Datsyuks than a team of Crosbys or Ovechkins.

@@brandons9138 LOOOOOOOOL ahh yes let’s just look over the fact that Datsuyk played with beyond stacked teams and played a majority of his career with the BEST DEFENSIVE DEFENSEMEN OF ALL-TIME.
@brandons91382 жыл бұрын
@@CorruptInsurgence Both Gretzky and Lemieux played on stacked teams as well. Crosby has played on teams that I would consider pretty stacked. Ovechkin gets the short end of the stick in that regard. It's a shame that the Capitols haven't been able to put a better team around him. Gretzky himself even called Datsyuk one of the best players he's ever seen. Datsyuk's contemporaries repeatedly named him as one of the most dangerous players in the game. His multiple Byng and Selke trophys attest to his greatness as an individual player. I will agree that Lidstrom was the best defenseman to play the game, so at least you got that right.

A very patient and cunning player. That is an unbeatable combination. Had he come of age with these skills in the 1970s he would have been the greatest to ever have played the game, Gretz included.
@TheNewsstandMan5 жыл бұрын
As for pure talent, he’s one of the greatest to ever play. Some are born, some have to develop their talent. I would probably add Mario, Bobby Orr, Kharlamov and Bure to make it the top five pure talents. Oddly enough, the four added, never got to play their full careers, except for maybe Kharlamov. RIP.

You’veGottaBe KiddingMe I’d say yes, but he was more of a complete player, both physically, technically and cerebrally, but if you had a shootout, and you had the choice who to give the stick to, I’d go with Dats. Fedorov is higher on the all time list, but we’re talking pure talent.

One of Datsyuk's most famous goals is a shootout in January 2010, when Pavel beat Chicago goalkeeper Antti Niemi with a mocking "parachute". The Black Hawks eventually won the Stanley Cup, but there is no doubt that Niemi remembered this puck for many years as in a terrible dream...

MacKinnon is great, but not even close to the hands Datsyuk had. It is hard to compare him to anyone really.
@timmyjohnson11954 жыл бұрын
Bruce Hunter Funny thing is Datsyuk didn’t even need a have fast hands just his little head fake shoulder fake is literally what destroyed the goalie so much. You look at Patrick Kane and Nathan MacKinnon and how fast they move the puck. Yeah it looks good whereas Datsyuk literally just moves his shoulder or head in a certain way and the the goalie would be totally faked out.
@kwh67694 жыл бұрын
Timmy Johnson I think Patrick Kane has similar hands but what made datsyuk special was his defense. The guy was a lock down defender, I think people forget just how special he was. Maybe because he was surrounded by other legends
